Look, there's room for improvement. Next time I'll bake it in a smaller tin so it's double the height. I'll probably add more sprinkles and one more drop of food dye (I was at primary school before Jamie Oliver, so my body yearns for something of an unnatural hue)

But it should still make any kids with packed lunches a bit jealous. Shout out to the dinner ladies of Our Lady of Peace primary school for really going the distance every Friday with this banger. It always lives on in my heart (and surrounding arteries)

(I'm a Brit in Germany hence the inferior plug on the hand mixer, but hope Incan still participate in this sub)

  1. Looks great! I remember this type of cake from primary school too, and also just called it ‘School Cake’.

  2. I’ve been meaning to make this for ages! There is normally a baked goods stall at the Liverpool Christmas markets that sells it too but it wasn’t there this year.

Looks great OP, enjoy reliving your childhood.

  3. IDK if it was just that I went to a poor school or something but we never had any star’s 😪

  4. My Nan was a cook at a school and I would get lots of cake at the weekend that she brought home, this would defo be a good cake.

  5. Please tell me where you got those sprinkles!? 😍 They look so much more vivid than the janky ones I’ve seen in supermarkets!

  6. Bloody hell, I’ve just had dinner, and now I’m hungry again!

And I have no cake. So I either go hungry, or brave the rain for whatever’s left in the Co-Op. Thanks u/stonke12!

  7. That looks proper nice… with some proper custard i would eat the lot

  8. The school cornflakes tarts hit different too. I’ve tried to recreate it with the crappiest cheapest ingredients, and with good ones but it’s never the same.

  9. I’d need to see a cross section before giving a verdict, but looks fine to me!

    Also needs strawberry/pink custard

  10. Yes to the inferior plug reference and yes to a throwback cake 🍰

  11. Just the other day I got a meal deal and one of the options was “A School Cake Slice”. I have to say, it was as good as I remember.

  12. I can see this has already been poison tested, my skills are not required today.
