Irish politician Richard Boyd Barrett calls out government hypocrisy when it comes to Israel’s apartheid policies against the Palestinian people & escaping accountability for over 70+ years.

  1. More people have died in 10 days in Ukraine. Than the last 20 years of the isreali-Palestinian conflict.

Boyd barett is anti-western and the same hypocrisy he accuses the government of he himself has towards Ukraine

“The idea that NATO has anything to contribute to resolving the really dangerous situation in Ukraine, I think, is really the worst illusion possible.”

“And we need the Irish Government, as a neutral country, to be the voice for peace and non-military solutions to this conflict.”

“The suggestion that NATO is s defensive alliance is really just the most dishonest suggestion imaginable,”

Acording to him we shouldn’t be taking any but the most minor actions against russia.

He cannot be trusted right now and his finances should be investigated due to russia’s history of funding radical parties like his.

  2. The amount of people in here who’ll support Ukraine and then attack RBB for pointing out hypocrisy on Palestine because they don’t like the man is fucking embarrassing.

  3. There are crises all over the world – how governments respond is usually related to the effect it can have locally.

For example there could be a war in Africa, but most of the West wont care. Likewise a war in Israel hardly makes the news.

The Ukraine war can very directly affect life in Europe, and if it goes nuclear, Europe as we know it may be uninhabitable.

It doesn’t mean it’s less right, it’s just how it is.

Same reason Ireland isn’t banning Chinese airlines over the Uighyurs…

  4. Here he is protesting with students last October over a lack of student accommodation in Dublin

And here he is a month later objecting to student accommodation being built next to a college despite the support of the college itself. Citing ‘too many apartments’ and ‘too big’. *Too much student accommodation being built*

EDIT Here’s the proposed plans for the apartments.

  5. Not to mention that Ukrainians resisting Russian occupation are heroes but Irish people resisting British occupation were terrorists.

  6. Bit insulting to the Ukrainians making this comparison. They don’t launch indiscriminate attacks into Russia or have state representatives calling for the eradication of Russia.

  7. Totally agreee 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻I’ve been saying this everywhere the last couple of weeks! Even on Bidens twitter!
Of course no replies anywhere! Double standards!!

  8. Successive Irish governments have been some of the most outspoken in the western world on the Israeli treatment of Palestinians.

I’m sure they could be tougher, but I kind of fail to see why Richard’s got himself so worked up on it today in particular.

  9. the whataboutism just sows discord and disunity. in this moment and time Russia has invaded Ukraine, killing men, women and children. talking about other nations, and sanctions etc is just daft. its not going to happen so stop wasting peoples time. there is discussions to be had, and it is hypocrisy. but all it does is weaken the unity at a time the World is under threat by a madman. what happens now if Ireland goes alone and sanctions saudis and israel, and china. wtf do people like richard think will happen. he knows he´ is shite talking. theres laods of countries that need to be brought into line and america is a hypocrite. however now is not the fucking time.

  10. It’s mad how he’s calling for arms to be blocked from going to Ukrainians one day and then saying Palestine should get the same treatment from the EU as Ukraine is getting.
He’d be mute if he couldn’t say “Well what about”

  11. I like the government’s stance on the issue. There is absolutely no point in Ireland expelling Israeli ambassadors cutting diplomatic ties or introducing sanctions as it would lock us out of playing a part in any settlement.

  12. we are part of the US sphere of influence and the US said it was ok and vetoed any move against Israel.

Can we stop pretending we have a free hand in this. We have criticised them a number of times and taken the flac for it hopefully this policy will continue.

The idea that we can go off on our own and do something about it ridiculous

  13. He’s straddling a fine line between entirely valid criticism of Israel, and a whataboutism defence of Russia. I think he does extremely well here to make his point effectively, without downplaying the barbarism in Ukraine. Great contribution.

  14. There is a deeper question here.

Who came in behind him in the last 5 s of the clip, in black, buckled boots, and black, flowing chiffon and where were they coming from?

  15. Actions speak louder than words while his speech served to get the attention he has yet to actually carry out anything to aid Palestine in its bid for independence.

  16. Unfortunately for him, he’s wrong. Palestine doesn’t have democratic elections because of Hamas. Likewise, Hamas has been offered total peace, TWICE. And turned it down… meanwhile, Israel has Muslim political parties, that hold seats in their parliament. Do you think Jews hold seats in Hamas leadership??

  17. Hasn’t Ireland done a lot more than other?

I agree no where near enough , FF/FG never do near enough when it comes to anything other than giving themselves pay rises , but I thought we did a lot more than most in terms of things we don’t buy / send from / to them ?

Maybe I’m wrong , hopefully I am not

  18. Whether you agree with him or not, it doesn’t change the need to support Ukraine. Or is he actually saying we shouldn’t support Ukraine because we didn’t support the Palestinians?

  19. So I don’t care for PPP and their constant Russian apologism, yer man Barrett tends to end up on the right side of things in that regard but I seem to remember him throwing a massive stink about a motion to formally condemn Russia for the bombing of Aleppo then later doing the usual “Oh obviously we do of course not approve of it…” with the “But we want to try and sit on the fence” left unsaid.

The cat is out of the bag as far as Israel/Palestine or Saudi/Yemen or Chinese/Uyghur or Burmese/Rohingya or Sudanese/Darfuri or [group]/[group] conflict is concerned, whether or not I like it there isn’t much chance of those somehow expanding so innocent people will continue to suffer and die but it’ll be _over there_.

Russia taking Crimea from Ukraine was an aggressive overstep that should have invited something more than what amounted to a slap on the wrist sanctions but in reality that is all that happened, business continued as usual because people hoped that the problem would stay _over there_.

Russia now taking further action against Ukraine is absolutely a situation that demands more of a response, more concern, and more condemnation because of the fact that it represents the chance for that conflict to expand and for _over there_ to become _over here_. Comparing what is happening in Ukraine with the conflicts I mentioned above and probably dozens of others that don’t get the coverage they justly deserve is at best intellectually dishonest and at worst just ignorant, it speaks to the same kind of stupid backward fucking crusty counter culture 70s nonsense that continues to somehow be relevant in Irish politics and ends up with more than one of our MEPs being on the record as being in support of _Vladimir Putin_ before this whole thing blew up in their faces. Not the Russian state or their initiatives, specifically “I think Vlad is a swell guy” which is so much self-involved nonsense I don’t know where to start on breaking it down.

Why did they do this, because they’re dumb tankie twats who couldn’t find their way out of a crossword without screaming about how its oppressing them? Because they got a nice kickback from the various funds transparently trying to foster division in politics across the globe under the guise of “democratic vigour”? Because they took a look at the poisonings, the assassinations, and the annexations and thought “jesus thats the stuff lads!”?

I don’t fucking know but I’m beyond caring, the PPP will continue to limp on into the next generation of politics and maybe they’ll update some of their reference points but it’ll be the same as before. As soon as some money shows up dressed in the right clothes they’ll leap head first into a vat of sewage to get their cut then complain that everyone else isn’t covered in shit.

  20. I agree with this, I just have an issue with the left with regards their timing. Like, the Ukrainain situation is acute right now, can we just give them our focus for a bit and come back to Palestine in a few months?

  21. Jesus Christ man, is any other country on earth allowed to have a crisis once in a while? I appreciate his passion but it’s a bit…off topic.

  22. For once we have – near – worldwide unity on a position and its the right thing. This is good.

He’s right that there are a ton of other places that need this kind of support. And for various geopolitical and other reasons dont get it.

But for now let focus our attention on the ongoing massive situation and then we can call out countries on the other stuff. Getting distacted from the ongoing humanitatiry crisis will help noone.

And BTW I’m hopeful that there will be some positive changes in how things work after this. Like with Covid the world just doesn’t go back to business as usual. Who knows what the fall out will be.

  23. In 2014 he and the rest of the pbp idiots rejected a motion in the Dail that condemed the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation….. he and the rest of them have zero credibility

This is just deflection from the current Russian invasion…. Again ..
