Irish citizens who have graduated from a university in the south can now apply to be on the register of voters for the Seanad. This previously only applied to graduates of Trinity and NUI colleges. The law has been changed following a court case:

Seanad voting rights to be extended to all graduates

You can register to vote here before 23rd January 2025:

  1. You won’t be able to vote in the upcoming Seanad election however. This is to be on the register for the next election in five years or whenever the next general election and subsequent Seanad election is.

  2. Can anyone give me a good explanation of why Ireland needs a bicameral parliament? One that isn’t ‘jobs for the boys/girls’ or vague nonsense about oversight, thanks.
