They also have the bulk of the UK’s homeless population.
£371 million is not really bulk???
City with more people than Scotland and NI put together and the most expensive housing in the country in ‘gets more money for homeless people’ shock
I would imagine part of the problem is the absurd way that we handle temporary housing. I have a friend who’s on the waiting list for disability housing, and until her incompetent council can sort the bureaucracy out they’ve put her in a series of hotels. I can only imagine they’re paying out the ass, seeing as London is more expensive.
If the UK weren’t so allergic to state capacity we could have the government put people up themselves for much cheaper, but neoliberal logic says we’ve gotta pay the “efficient” companies to do it instead.
I don’t care where the money is going as long as the money is going to where it’s needed and can have the biggest impact.
– “Bulk” might make you think they mean more than half, but this is an intentionally misleading headline. It’s more like a third.
– Is this in proportion to the level of homelessness in the country? Does London have “the bulk” of rough sleepers or homeless people? The article doesn’t say.
– Does it cost more to help homeless people in the country’s most expensive city? Is the cost difference enough to mean that the split is proportionate? The article doesn’t say.
This is an atrocious article from the Evening Standard. Everyone involved in publishing it should be embarrassed to remember that the Standard used to be a serious newspaper.
If they are already homeless why not to find them home in low cost areas outside London?
More funding for the homelessness industrial complex in London that makes zero difference to homeless people like me.
Homeless charities deliberately keep homeless people homeless by running services that maintain homelessness instead of ending it, such as free food. There are 646 places in London providing free food.
The “homeless” charities that label themselves as “for homeless” are actually used by 95% people with a flat and only 5% are homeless, such as all the “homeless” day centres and Crisis at Christmas. They know very well that they’re scamming both funders and donors by blatantly lying who their service users are, yet continue lying.
Homeless charities that run hostels deliberately keep homeless people homeless by not informing us that most can get rehoused by the council and temporary accommodation, and instead coerce us into their hostels to profit from the housing benefit, keeping us homeless for years on end with no way out of homelessness.
You can read my reviews about how Crisis scam £65 million a year for one meal a day for 5 days a year at Crisis at Christmas for 95% housed people and 5% homeless on [londonhomelessinfo.wordpress.com/crisisxmas](http://londonhomelessinfo.wordpress.com/crisisxmas)
Why would they want to build for homeless in London of all places? Can’t it be outside of London? As a mid-income earner, I struggle to find a decent room in London for the money that I am earning from my salary and they want to build free housing for homeless folks.
Good advertisement for the homeless up and down the country, just get to London.
