Obviously , he was a respected actor before and was then miscast in a massive way. Jesse should stay away from big franchises and focus on real acting. And he’s a lucky one.
Sounds like he felt “A Real Pain”
> “I was in this ‘Batman’ movie and the ‘Batman’ movie was so poorly **received**, and I was so poorly **received**,” said Eisenberg. “I’ve never said this before and it’s kind of embarrassing to admit, but I genuinely think it actually hurt my career in a real way, because I was poorly **received** in something so public. I’ve been in poorly **received** things that just don’t see the light of day, and for the most part, no one knows, but this was so public, and I don’t read notices or reviews or movie press or anything, so I was unaware of how poorly it was **received**.”
That’s a lot of received.
It’s not really his fault. He was pretty much the same as every other movie he has been in. He never changes his acting style

Smart move to talk about Superman to promote his most recent movie while there’s buzz around Superman going around. I wonder if they planned the marketing of his new movie accordingly.

He was a poorly written Lex. I never blamed him for it. The writing and script for him felt totally wrong.
Maybe if the direction the gave his Lex Luthor, wasn’t just what if we had the Joker in tech, it would have been a lot better. There was a reason people wanted Bryan Cranston.
It wasn’t that he always plays the same neurotic, smarter-than-you guy in every role…including as Lex Luthor??
Jesse Eisenberg sucks and acts the same way in literally everything. That said, I didn’t see this one
I was hopeful at the time, but disappointed that we got an eccentric Luthor again in a movie and not the cold calculated one from the DCAU.
Eisenberg would have been a better Riddler.
Now he makes artsy indie movies which I don’t mind at all. More please!
I bet.
It hurt Ben’s too though to a lesser extent.
I can’t stand this guy. Easy channel change when I see that stupid face and hear that stupid voice. Ride off into the sunset and fuck off
He was miscast. It was also a bad script and poorly directed.
His shitty performances are what hurt his career.
Yeah it’s unfortunate. I used to love Jesse Eisenberg and I still do but I don’t really see him in much movies anymore.
I think if he played Lex like he played Mark Zuckerberg, it would’ve been a fine portrayal. But I don’t know what him and Zack were trying to accomplish with that performance.
He was pretty bad in it to be honest
It wasn’t the poor reception, it was that it was a dog shit movie.
I mean sorry Jesse, but you were the worst Lex Luthor in history. Its not your fault you got miscast but man was that performance horrible.
Thems the bricks. You take gigs, some don’t work out. Welcome to the real world where the rest of us live.
I feel like Lex should be imposing, and Eisenberg just isn’t.
On WTF (the podcast) Jesse said that he loved making the superhero movie because it was a challenge and it was amazing and impressive for him to see how a hint movie gets made. He is a very interesting guy who is more focused on writing (he’s a playwright) and doesn’t care about stardom as much as “being a good actor”-it’s a good listen and I highly recommend it
I feel like the weirdest thing about Jesse Eisenberg’s performance is that it feels very un Snyder like, if that makes any sense.
Like, I would picture Zack Snyder making his Lex Luthor some unnecessarily jacked, very intense 40/50 year old actor. Casting a scrawny tech nerd version is so unexpected
Eh, he’s alright. I think the best movie I ever saw him on was The Hunting Party. Smaller flick back in the day, great movie
My wig was poorly received and therefore I was received poorly and unfortunately the movie I was in was also poorly received in a public way
Because he didn’t research the source material and thought he was the Riddler if he knew he would have turned down the script…but imo he is a very mid actor who was born to star in Social Network that’s it…
I didn’t mind the idea of a young lex Luther, especially to contrast against the two other leads who were older men. Made sense for a rich modern day villain to be a tech kid.
Umm, his shitty annoying performance as Lex hurt his career. Lol He was unbearable to watch every time he was onscreen.
Definitely one of the weirdest casting choices for Lex to be honest.
He was miscast as lex. He wouldve been a great riddler
Cast was never at fault, it was Snyder and the writers with terrible ideas and stories
Even John Cryer was a better Lex Luthor
Well he did quite literally the worst iteration of Lex Luthor ever.
Aside from that, it’s almost like every emotional scene he took an inspired stance that was so off the mark. You can be an actor and create a character the audience hates (for the character, which is a good thing) but his scenes were someone you’d walk away from mid sentence vs. thinking they were some brooding super genius villain.
It was a setback because it made him look very amateur and unprepared and worse, unconvincing.
Personally I liked him in that and thought he was great. Movie as a whole was a bit average but we all know that.
He overacted in that movie
A very unpopular opinion but he was my favorite part of that Batman movie
GOOD.
He was the worst part.
And yet guess who was on the **receiving end?**
The audience.
His character was so cringe
I enjoyed the movie. Maybe in hindsight a different kind of lex would have been better, but I felt like this was basically his origin story as a Young villain.
I love Jesse, but in Batman he was the wrong man to play Lex, and that’s why he was poor judged.
