  1. I saw videos, North Korean troops see drones and simply stare at them. It’s a total disaster. They clearly received little to none pre-deployment training on the reality at the front. Doesn’t mean they aren’t advancing, there are reports of a constant stream of troops assaulting the Ukrainian positions.

  2. Russia treats it’s own citizens as Cannon Fodder. Did anyone really expect them to treat „foreigners“ better?

  3. We should all feel for these conscripts. They will never be allowed to return home. Their families are likely already starving in prison camps. North Korea fears unrest the most, and nothing causes more unrest than veterans and families of missing soldiers.

  4. 9000 left. Barely any difference on the battlefield. Ukraine got this.

  5. >A new report from South Korea’s spy agency released on Thursday says that at least 100 North Korean troops have been killed after being dispatched to Russia to fight in the war on Ukraine, and another 1,000 have been injured.

    >This comes after an expert told Newsweek that Pyongyang’s troops have “now become Putin’s cannon fodder.”

    >Newsweek has contacted the Russian Defense Ministry and the South Korean Ministry for foreign affairs via email for comment.

    >**Why It Matters**

    >North Korea’s entry into the Ukraine war was a major development in the conflict. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Pyongyang has sent 11,000 troops to fight against Ukrainian troops in Russia’s Kursk region, which has been partially occupied since a surprise incursion by Kyiv’s forces in August.

    >Zelenksy has warned the West that Moscow has gathered 50,000 troops to fight against Ukrainian forces in Kursk. The Pentagon has said that Pyongyang’s troops have been readying for combat.

    >**What To Know**

    >South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) said in a closed-door parliamentary briefing that the Russian military has complained North Korean troops lack drone response capabilities, according to the Yonhap News Agency.

    >The NIS also said that North Korean troops are being mainly mobilized as front-line storm troopers.

    >It has also detected signs that the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is making preparations to train a special operation force that will be dispatched to Ukraine, Yonhap reported.

    >**What People Are Saying**

    >Pentagon press secretary Major General Pat Ryder has said the North Koreans had: “suffered casualties, both killed and wounded.”

    >In a previous email shared with Newsweek Edward Howell, Korea Foundation fellow at the Chatham House think tank in London, said: “North Korean troops have now become Putin’s cannon fodder.”

    >On December 16, Zelensky posted on X that: “Russia not only sends the North Korean troops to storm Ukrainian positions, but also tries to conceal losses of these people.”

    >”There is not a single reason for North Koreans to fight and die for Putin,” Zelensky wrote.

  6. Man this chapter is just sad, it’s one thing for a bunch of opportunistic Russian equivalent of rednecks to sign up to to get droned, but these guys never had a choice to begin with, somebody’s entire life and consciousness, just a bartering chip for some lunatic dictator to get some missle tech and cash.

    So morbid.

  7. It’s surprising any of them are in any sort of battle condition after the intensive pornography induction session

  8. Least surprising news ever. I thought it was a given that’s what they were going to be.

  9. So they are being treated just like the Russian troops from what we have seen of the pows

  10. 1000 out of 10000. The classic definition of decimated

  11. On an unrelated note, every time I read “Cannon Fodder”, my brain is programmed to start singing “War! Never been so much fun!”.

  12. Machine guns in front from Ukraine and machine guns at the rear from the Russians. There is no choice, no amount of training could prepare them for that.

Typical Russian tactics through the years, life is so cheap to them.

  13. Imagine having no exposure to the outside world or any technology past the 1960’s then being dropped into a war zone with killer robots, after being told the west trembles at your ability march silly and break wooden boards

  14. Well, it seems like the North Korea troops are performing like we thought.

  15. Still a higher life expectancy than actually living in NK
