  2. My ancestors lived on the Vennel in Dalry, and this post has reminded me to look up the etymology.

    “A vennel is a passageway between the gables of two buildings which can in effect be a minor street in Scotland and the north east of England”. It’s comes from the French “vennelle” meaning alley or lane, which is also the root word for funnel.
