DICKINSON — Devon Energy’s annual Give for Good Golf Tournament raised more than $115,000 to support local nonprofits, including the United Way of Dickinson, which received $42,232 to bolster its community programs. The funds will also benefit the Great Plains Food Bank and Souris Valley United Way, extending the impact to communities across North Dakota and parts of Minnesota.

The United Way of Dickinson, which focuses on improving quality of life for local residents, will use the funds to support programs for seniors, individuals with disabilities and youth.

“The United Way Dickinson would like to take this opportunity and thank Devon Energy for their generous donation of $42,232,” said Dr. Robert Baer, executive director of United Way of Dickinson. “This type of donation allows United Way Dickinson to provide area children and their families many different programs that otherwise would not be available to them. Through these donations United Way Dickinson can keep their variety of programs ongoing.”

Some of the local initiatives supported by the United Way of Dickinson include after-school programs for children, emergency assistance for families and meal services for seniors. With growing demand for these services, particularly during the colder months, donations like Devon Energy’s play a crucial role in sustaining these efforts.

The United Way of Dickinson has been a staple in the community for decades, offering a wide range of services tailored to local needs. Programs like job training for adults, youth mentoring and disaster recovery assistance have been instrumental in helping families thrive.

“This donation allows us to address the unique needs of Dickinson residents,” Baer said. “We are proud to partner with businesses like Devon Energy that understand the value of investing in their communities.”

As Dickinson prepares for the challenges of the coming year, support from Devon Energy and similar efforts ensure that local organizations can continue to provide essential services to those who need them most.

Karly Houghton, a community relations professional at Devon Energy, highlighted the company’s commitment to community support.

“Devon Energy is proud to stand alongside these incredible organizations in their efforts to improve the lives of those in our community,” Houghton said. “The Give for Good Golf Tournament is a testament to the power of community partnerships and the difference we can make together.”

The Great Plains Food Bank, the only food bank in North Dakota, distributes surplus food to individuals and families in need across the state and Clay County, Minnesota.

“Every dollar turns into two meals, so that’s 72,460 meals for people in need. Thank you, Devon Energy, for such a wonderful donation,” said Marcia Paulson, chief development officer of the Great Plains Food Bank.

Souris Valley United Way focuses on improving education, financial stability, and health outcomes in its community, as well as addressing urgent needs.

“We are grateful for the continued support of Devon Energy. Their generous donation to our 2024 Campaign will help Souris Valley United Way make a big impact on our area,” said Christy Miller, executive director of the Souris Valley United Way.
