White supremacist who plotted terror attack jailed for 10 years

1. A white supremacist who glorified Hitler and plotted a terror attack in Scotland has been jailed for 10 years.

   Alan Edward, 55, had nearly 28,000 followers on social media and had discussed an attack on an LGBT group, saying its members would “pay in blood”.

   When armed police raided his terrace home in the Redding area of Falkirk in September 2022, they discovered weapons including a crossbow with telescopic sights, 14 knives including some featuring Nazi insignia, machetes, a samurai sword and a stun gun.

   They also uncovered an air pistol, an SS-style skull mask, fighting gloves with specially hardened knuckles, pellets, ball bearings and hunting tips for crossbow arrows. Prosecutors said this amounted to “an armoury”.

   Edward denied all the offences, but, in September, a jury found him guilty of charges under the Terrorism Act, racism, anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial and breach of the peace. On Thursday, he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow.

   Ms Justice Tait told Edward, who appeared via video link from prison, that he “publicly and extensively posted views of an extreme Right-wing nature”.

   She said he was found “in possession of numerous items” in circumstances that gave rise to suspicion it could be linked to a terrorist act.

   “The author of the risk assessment on you assesses you at high risk of re-offending. For such serious offences there is no appropriate alternative to a prison sentence,” Ms Justice Tait said.

   “It is necessary to punish you and deter you and others from engaging in activities for the purposes of terrorism and to protect the public from you.”

   Edward will also be monitored for five years on his release.

   Ms Justice Tait further imposed a serious crime prevention order – known as a super-Asbo – which is designed to tackle and restrict the activities of criminals on their eventual release. This will also be for five years.

   Edward was known to be a Holocaust denier. He also mocked the murder of George Floyd, killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis in May 2020.

   A document found on his computer referred to neo-Nazi mass murderer Anders Breivik as “Saint Anders”.

   Jurors heard he was said to have “notions of white supremacy, racial purity of whites, racism, anti-Semitism and hatred of homosexuals and transgender people”.

   Checks on his WhatsApp account revealed he had been messaging an associate in nearby Grangemouth – identified as “Pello” – about a proposed attack on the LGBT group, which met in Falkirk.

   He was found to have used bigoted language in a series of texts expressing his desire to kill members of the transgender and Jewish communities. They were described as “incredibly sinister”.

   Now, there are people in this sub (we’ve all seen them comment on certain things) that are going to be upset about this news, hell they probably instantly hit downvote upon seeing “great news”.

   It’s time to snap out of it guys, it is not a healthy state of mind and you can get help before it goes too far and innocent people get hurt.

3. Someone with a violent lifestyle, some degree of influence (over 25k followers) was making threats of hurting and killing other people. Absolutely dreadful.

   This is what some ill-minded people will joke (or not) and comment as “can’t say anything in the UK” or “Labour will arrest me for posting on social media”.

   Well done, and hope they can keep following the trail and finding better solutions for these people and their followers. They are not safe to be among us in society.

4. I’m not sure 10 years is long enough, but it’s good to know he’s safely locked away for a good while at least.

5. They always look like shit. You’d think they’d want mix up their gene pool with what he’s got going on.

7. Did he have any prior offences? Sounds like they just made an example out of some larper. 10 years is incredibly extreme for someone who was being an extreme cunt on the internet, doesn’t seem like a win to me.
