  1. What do they mean “if” humans go extinct? We’re already on the fast track to the failure bin of the universe. There’s no “if” about it, but more of a when.

  2. It takes more than intelligence to build civilization. 

  3. They already had a few hundred thousand years in their current state before humans were even hunter gatherers The core issues are that they don’t live long, die not long after birth, and aren’t very social.

    So they don’t really teach offspring or each other so no condensing of knowledge needed to craft crude tools.
    And the fire is an issue. But this popped up in another sub and someone brought up thermal vents as a substitute.
