What the fuck is going on with all these busses hitting bridges
There was one of these in Glasgow 30 odd years ago and a whole bunch of School kids died.
I knew one of the firemen who had to attend and then clean up the site after. It was horrific.
>A sign near the bridge states it is not suitable for vehicles over 8ft 3 (2.5m) high.
Why on earth was the bus trying to go there? Surely that is not part of the route
Another one?!
Taps aff indeed.
Inexperienced drivers maybe?
Must have been going some speed to get all the way through and rip the whole roof off. Most likely he’s used to a single decker and had a brain fart, but just maybe he was having intrusive thoughts about jamming his big bus into that wee hole.
Hope no one is badly hurt.
Only 3 with minor injuries
I’m a local and live not too far from this bridge. No fucking idea what possessed the driver to even attempt this, it’s a single road through it and yer cars lucky to keep its wing mirrors, never mind a roof of a double decker.
Guessing it was an inexperienced driver.
Given the caliber of new bus drivers – we should all be sitting on the lower deck and wearing a helmet.
Caption on the side of the bus certainly fits well
Every bus I’ve followed for the last three or four years has had a big advert on the back telling me they’re hiring now and promising how much I’ll get if I sign-up
Following the pandemic, there was a big demand for drivers
I’m guessing these prangs are a result of too many new drivers and skimping on the length of training/supervision periods
You working for the Daily Record?
Scotland’s really not doing great on the bus front at the minute
HGV driver here. I honestly cannot wrap my head around these bridge strikes. You are charged with the responsibility of driving these vehicles safely and protecting passengers and the public. I do not understand how you can forget the height of the _double decker bus_ you’re driving. It’s like forgetting it’s width on a narrow road or it’s weight on a weak bridge. These bridges are clearly signed well before you get to them, including the route to avoid them.
It’s even more remiss of the driver if they had been diverted. They should be extra alert to their surroundings. Remove their license and prosecute them for dangerous driving. I don’t say this lightly, but I hope the driver gets fucked for this. There is no excuse.
Sums up stagecoach tbf, fuckin shambles of a company.
Time to start drug testing bus drivers more often.
It was all teenagers on the top deck from what I’ve heard. That bus route has two big secondary and 2 big primary schools and there are always kids on those buses. That none of them have been seriously hurt is a miracle. They must have clocked the bus not turning before the bridge and threw themselves to the floor as everyone that lives in New Farm Loch avoids that bridge as it’s really low, narrow and floods when it rains. Ambulances don’t go through there never mind buses.
Surely this is a jail sentence for the driver? Inexperienced or not, can’t be endangering people’s lives like that.
