I am planning to bring 1 bottle of whiskey which is rather expensive to Finland (air travel, outside EU, >500€) for personal use. I know I have to declare, but on finavia website, they said from non eu country you can only bring goods 430€ tax free. So do i understand that i cant bring my bottle in because it worth more than 430?

  1. It means you need to pay taxes. Check the CUSTOMS website, Finavia has absolutely nothing to do with any import regulations

  2. My expertise is limited to Brazilian law, but for this case it is usually harmonized with other countries laws. However, take this with a grain of salt.

If it is for your own consumption, you should not have to declare it. To guarantee that it is for personal use, breaking whatever seal should do the trick in case of questioning. These things are hardly enforced because of many limitations on your and their end.

  3. You mean that bottle of whiskey you got from a friend as a gift who said it’s 370€? Or maybe the bottle of fake ‘good whiskey’ you paid 10€ for? /jk

Edit: “Note that alcohol is not included in the value limit.” says the customs. Makes me think for alcohol value there is no limit.

Edit2: You can call the customs and ask if in doubt: https://tulli.fi/en/customer-service/for-individuals

  4. Dont tell anyone? If someone asks it was 50 euros ot better yet, a gift from a friend.

  5. The price should not matter for alcohol I believe. You can import 1 lite of spirits tax free. If you bring 2 liters or more you must declare and pay taxes. Check the Finnish customs website for more

    > When you arrive in Finland from outside the EU, you can import gifts and passenger items without paying tax and customs duty

    > * for a value of 430 euros when you arrive by air or sea
    > * for a value of 300 euros when you arrive by other means.

    > Note that alcohol is not included in the value limit.
