2. EU buys lots of US oil and gas and has been increasing this since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

   EU could always counter with saying, we could buy a lot less from you, too, if you put up tariffs.

   Probably the US weapons trade and Ukraine will end up being part of this negotiation as well, as the defense of Ukraine depends on military industry physically located in the US; Even if the EU wanted to take over the support financially it’ll still need US cooperation.
