Okay, so yes, there's all sorts of hoo-hah about the look and feel of the new vs old wrappers and what that says about "quality", and sustainability vs non-sustainability vs greenwashing, and no doubt people have their opinion on the flavour of the chocolate itself, but l'm talking PURELY about the TASTE… of the wrappers…
Basically, is it just me, or did anyone else enjoy licking the plastic? Like, that has always been my favourite part! If you've never sucked on an old QS wrapper until it goes floppy, you've seriously been missing out! Not least because it becomes more malleable and you can make 3D glasses out of it!
The wrappers packed some serious flavour! They were all kind of sweet and sugary? Almost like the flavour of the filling of a strawberry delight? And you could suck on them whilst you waited for the tin to be passed around again. Am I mad? I don't generally go around licking the wrappers to things, but I guess child-me discovered it one year and never let go.
TLDR: Anyone miss the taste of Quality Street wrappers?

Mmm microplastics
No, but the new ones are so dull they suck the joy out of opening a tin (or tub). So much so that, for the first year ever, I didn’t get any QS in for Christmas.
Irony is the old one has less plastic
Better than Roses with those shitey little sealed wrappers. You know these have been designed to make the tin appear fuller too.
Absolutely criminal that they changed the shape of the orange crunch and purple one as well.
I honestly don’t like the look and feel of the new wrappers.
As for taste, that’s something I cannot comment upon.
The idea of “sucking on an old Quality Street wrapper until it goes floppy” simultaneously horrifies and piques my interest.
I’ve never seen or heard of anyone sucking the wrapper, but you do you!
I’m mainly commenting to check back later whether you’re alone on this or if it’s a common phenomenon
Is every post on this sub ‘didnt this used to be better’?
Ah, a fellow wrapper sucker!
It’s not just the taste. The new wrappers are so bulky we only get about five chocolates in a tub.
Heartbreaking
Roses look like crap now. Lost all their personality. The tinned chocs xmas tradition is over in our house now.
Related: I miss the old Cadbury’s **Roses** foil wrappers because they enabled me one day to very carefully unwrap a Strawberry Cream, and then replace a Coffee Cream in the same wrapping. They’re exactly the same shape and size. Then I placed the coffee cream in strawberry cream wrapping in the top centre of the nearly-full box, and teenage me offered it to my sister.
We both loved strawberry creams, and hated coffee creams. Sure enough, my sister went straight for her favourite chocolate. I didn‘t say anything.
I then watched her face as her smile gave way to confusion, followed by disgust, and left me giggling.
Sadly not possible any more. Good times in the ’90s 😊
The great enshittification
I miss the cellophane wrappers as they were good for craft projects.
The crispy sound of the original wrapping just sounded like christmas.
I used to like chucking them on the fire and getting a little firework display
I thought the same about the new packaging/wrapping. We had a “tin” of quality streets at work, and every one of them tasted like the wrapper. They need to rename it “Mediocre Streets”.
I can still remember the smell of a freshly opened tin of Quality Street on Christmas morning. My hand would always go straight for the green triangles. By the end of the festivities, we’d always by left with the toffees that nobody wanted.
They failed to understand that the old wrappers were part of the experience. Separating them into different piles; flattening out the cellophane and then sticking them over your eyes to see in different colours. It was a ritual of Christmas! Now they’re dull dull dull
did anyone else use to like the dark red brazilian flavoured chewy ones because they don’t exist any,or but no one ever talks about them
Someone gave me quality street this year and the main thing I noticed is that all the flavours have sort of merged together on them. They all have a slight hint of each other in a way they didn’t use to. I’ve had roses as well which are just so much nicer – each one tastes like it should and they don’t have the weird chemical aftertaste that quality street have now either
Obligatory fuck Nestle
