‘Gisèle Pelicot has put the spotlight on what rape victims go through in a trial’ • FRANCE 24

The French man who has admitted to enlisting dozens of strangers to rape his heavily-sedated wife asked for forgiveness from his family on Monday and hailed the courage of his now ex-spouse during his trial. FRANCE 24’s Jean-Emile Jammine speaks to Sarah McGrath, CEO of Women for Women France. She says that Gisèle Pelicot is the “perfect victim, with the perfect evidence”; but despite that, defense lawyers tried to chip away at her credibility, “going almost as far as accusing her of lying”.

  2. This case is aas bad as the others, if her husband did this, die 20 years the she must be diseased by now,and she is victim for 20 years another lie,how is this true? The justice system is as stupid as the woman laying chrges, she could have walked out long ago, they liars I don't believe she didn't know anything and stuff like this

  6. Her courage is at last shining the spotlight on the misogyny of society, but it is truly having the effect of "letting the shame change sides!"

    Very recently in France a nine year old rape victim also decided to waive her anonymity, specifically because she has been inspired by Gisèle Pelicot.

    Time for men to stand up and own their contribution to this situation within the whole of society, and for women to be able to slough off the shame and and misery of having to prove the case against their attackers, while being called a liar and accused of having somehow invited the attacks.

  9. When I was raped in New Orleans in the sixties, the police treated me worse than the rapist. I think men need to stop lying and defending themselves. But you hear what American men say. Your body, my right.

"We are not out there grape-ing men, it's men who are committing these crimes" – as the longstanding victim of the grape gangs here in the UK, and constantly getting arrested by the police and falsely accused of grape-ing my grape-ists – THANK YOU, I needed to hear that!!! I was the first ever woman in the UK to get arrested for, and charged with, alleged grape – while being barely alive due to years of very violent grapes and other violence – which police do to protect the gangs for political reasons!

    I have spent years douting my own mind, wondering how a woman is supposed to grape a man – what with, for a start – without anyone ever being willing to answer this simple question.

    Thank you, I needed to hear that! Indeed – we women don't grape anyone, we don't have the… equipment to do so, we don't have the strength to overpower men, and we are just not perverts!

  27. Sara Mc Grath's statistic is that a man is more likely to be assaulted by another man than he is to be falsely accused of rape when she was appealing for more men to help. The statistic seems high, until I looked up the case of UK's recorded most prolific rapist of men, offender, Reynhard Sinaga. He used 'chemical submission' too. Suddenly, that stat of 230% does not sound too outrageous.

  28. While I am disgusted and shocked by this crime.. If it’s true she was aware of her husband molesting her daughters and grandchildren prior to all of this being uncovered, but only reported him to the authorities once she learned what he was doing to her then she is very much apart of the problem!
