Russia has lost at least 3,251 Tanks (visually confirmed). This month, the old T-62s make up a record-high proportion of their losses. A 🧵about those losses, with a new and, I think, revealing graph from me.

  1. They still have a decent amount of tanks, but I can see it becoming harder and harder to refurbish and they most likely soon switch to building new tanks (they might not have all the new equipment).

  2. When they planned this they thought they had plenty of tanks for 3 days.

  3. Am I reading this right that it looks like 78% of its modern tanks are gone!

Can you imagine if the USA lost 78% of its modern tanks and was pressing tanks from the 50’s-70’s into service as fast as they could. Wild stats.

  4. One could say, Russia’s losses are “tanking” their ability to perform armored assaults?

  5. There are a ton of limiting factors here, but Russia cannot produce enough barrels for artillery or tanks and this squeeze is starting get traction. They currently are able to produce about 15-20% of what they are losing and the specialized machinery to create barrels is difficult to create and has a very long lead time.

  6. Is it the T-62 that’s a pretty decent tank (compared to the T-72) or the T-64?

  7. I imagine that if you go back to 2022, and tell putin that he would lose over 3200 tanks, that he pause and rethink this war.

If you tell him that he would lose 3200 tanks, in a single month, nearly 3 years into the war… You would slip and fall out a window, since that is obviously not possible…
