President-elect Donald Trump has many plans to unravel the governments environmental protections and decarbonation programs. Trump thinks climate change is a hoax. Trump makes wild and unsubstantial comments about wind and solar energy because oil interests give more money to political campaigns.

But polls show 78% of Americans say climate change is real.

In Trump’s first term he scrapped over 100 environmental protection rules. But President Joe Biden restored back many of these rules. Now that Trump has been reelected, he wants to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Biden. This bill contains America’s biggest ever investment in clean energy. It shows that red states will benefit the most from renewable energy. Today it is proven that wind and solar power is less expensive than new fossil -fueled power plants. Studies have shown that the job growth in renewables would be more than offset the job losses in fossil fuel.

The Inflation Reduction Act is expected to reduce U.S. emissions 40% by 2030, if it unfolds as planned in the coming years. As the world’s energy transformation unfolds, other countries have been able allowed to dominate the clean energy industries made possible by using America’s innovation.

China now controls 80% of the world’s solar supply chain and also dominates wind turbine manufacturing too. The Biden administration signed the Paris Agreement along with most other nations to agree to cut greenhouse gas emissions which causes global warming worldwide. And now Trump has promised to pull out of the Paris Agreement.

When people voted for president this year, how could they not think about saving the world for future generations, especially the young? But young white men, young Black men, and young Hispanic men all voted for Trump in record numbers? There was plenty of evidence that Trump cared little about America’s future environment.

The Federal Times stated that Trump’s election “delt a blow to the renewable energy industry in America.” Global scientists say that the U.S. and the world should be redoubling its efforts to deploy clean energy and to speed up decarbonation.

Ultimately, the U.S. stands at a crossroads. If it wants to remain competitive in the global economy, it must not ignore the potential of green technologies. It is time for the Republican Party to put the country first, and stand up to Trump on climate change before it’s too late to save our country’s environment. In writing the Constitution, our founders made Congress to be the most important branch of government. Its duties were described in Article One. The Executive Branch requirements were described in Article Two.

Republicans in Congress must swear allegiance to the Constitution. But they fear Trump’s complete power and control of the Republican Party more. Thus they will not contest Trump on any issue because they fear Trump will have them voted out at the next election. Trump ignoring climate change is pure insanity for America.
