FRANKFORT, Ky. (WCHS) — Eyewitness News spoke with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear Friday, previewing his legislative wish list for the 2025 General Assembly.
“In this session we ought to look at affordable housing,” Beshear said. “We have a few buckets of money that can be effectively invested in existing programs like the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.”
The governor said state lawmakers should look at infrastructure abroad as Kentucky competes globally for economic development.
“Hopefully it will be one focused on the people, focused on core issues like jobs, health care, infrastructure public safety and public education,” Beshear said.
A possible income tax cut may also come out of the session.
“I believe we will be able to cut the income tax again this coming year and this coming session. we have a booming economy,” Beshear added.
The Democratic governor will need to work with the Republican supermajority’s pro-business policies, including right to work and fiscal discipline.
“Economic development is a team sport with $35 billion of private sector investment in five years,” Beshear explained. “It’s a record for any governor and enough credit to go around. My job is not to drive the state to the right or the left, but to move it forward. There is no Democrat or Republican job.”
The next session of the Kentucky General Assembly begins Jan. 7 and wraps up at the end of March.
