Ethical Power Italia, a subsidiary of Ethical Power Group, has signed its first solar EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contracts in Italy to build two solar farms for Encavis AG. The two projects are the 9MW Cobu Solar Farm and the 9.3MW Massarenti Solar Farm, both located in Emilia-Romagna, a region in northern Italy. Both farms will feature single-axis tracker systems.
The Cobu project will also include the construction of a 5km medium voltage (MV) grid connection to the nearest grid access point. Construction for both projects is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with a target energisation date by the end of 2025. Combined, the two solar farms will produce around 28GWh of energy annually.
Francesca Cavallini, Country Manager for Ethical Power Italia, said in a statement, “As an Ethical Power Group company, drawing upon a wealth of experience gained from diverse global landscapes, we will bring a world-class approach to harnessing Italy’s abundant sunlight and deliver cutting-edge solar projects at Cobu and Massarenti. We are delighted to have signed our first contracts now with a leading European renewables company Encavis AG as a client, continuing our successful international relationship with them.”
This is the second solar EPC contract that Ethical Power Group companies have received from Encavis AG. The first project, the 55MW Fundici Solar Farm in Spain, is nearing completion. Encavis AG acquired the Cobu and Massarenti solar projects, which were ready to build, from Hive Energy earlier this month.Italy’s solar energy sector is expanding quickly, with 5.23 GW of new solar capacity added to the grid in 2023, the highest amount since 2011. Ethical Power Italia also has a pipeline of 200MW worth of solar and BESS construction projects, aiming to support the continued growth of renewable energy in Italy in the coming years.
