Dear people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,

I wanted to give a heartfelt thanks for your quick and decisive action to back us up here in Estonia with troops. Also, yesterday was day of independence and 5 jets came all the way from UK with mid-air refueling to fly over the parade. This gave me a tear in my eye and means a lot.

Please keep supporting us on the eastern flank. The bear has awakened from his sleep and I am convinced threatens existence of freedom in Europe. Today, Estonia is our common joint front line. We must do everything possible for same scenes not to repeat in Paris, Warsaw, London, Rome, Helsinki, Riga, Vilnius and all other European capitals.

(British reinforcements are arriving earlier today to Estonia to increase security in view of recent events):

  1. Britain stand with its allies. You should thank yourselves for making something worth protecting. Thats why britian stands with Estonia.

Edit: im **not** saying some people aren’t worth protecting.

  2. Really fond of Tallinn and was touched when I, by sheer coincidence, came across that plaque dedicate to our armed forces coming to your aid in previous conflicts (somewhere by the entrance to the Old Town). It led me down a deep Wikipedia rabbit hole of reading up on our shared history.

Thank goodness you guys got NATO status before it was too late. We got you.

  3. We do stand with our allies, that’s one thing we do well.

    On everything else, we’re a shambles 😀

  4. No problem.

Having been embarrassed at Brexit, I’ve been mostly proud at our response, while Germany has shamed itself.

I hope to visit the Baltic nations soon. I work with a Lithuanian woman and I’m glad you guys are safely within NATO now.

  5. I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to Estonia, but I do know the flag is pretty dope.

I’m glad we’re at least doing *something* to help keep you guys safe during this time.

  6. A lot of people like to take a proverbial dump on the UK, and as a nation we have many faults. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned after two world wars, it’s the value and importance of allies.

  7. NATO countries are safe, don’t worry.

I’m just sorry Ukraine wasn’t fast-tracked into NATO before it was too late.

Maybe this could’ve been avoided if our leaders had more of a backbone.

  8. I’ve hated everything this Government has done for the last decade, but I am, so far, happy with our response to this attack. I hope we continue to support Ukraine and our allies in the area. Fuck Putin.

  9. One thing I like about Europe, is we all take the piss out of each other, the uk does a Brexit, we all hate each other, but… when someone fucks with Europe.

It’s like a brother, we can bully each other but if someone else wants to get in then that’s not acceptable!

  10. Estonia is a beautiful country. If the people want to remain independent and free they should be defended!

  11. I for one am a big fan of Estonia. It’s a great country full of lovely people and I’m glad the UK government is doing what it can to support you.

  12. It’s weird as person from the UK seeing such decisive government action as politically right now Boris is under fire and I don’t like him at all but yet he’s doing the right thing and posts like this give me hope he’s not totally fucking incompentent.

  13. The disconnect is crazy, Poles, Romanians, Estonians and other post soviet countries think BoJo did brilliant job putting these sanctions on Russia, and yet he’s criticised in the UK for having too small response. On this topic no other country did as much as the UK so far. Germany and Italy literally refused to send even helmets to UA and are blocking EU-wide sanctions. If BoJo wants to be the new Churchill, he’s doing ok.

  14. Estonia has done a lot for UK as well, without you we would have no GOV.UK. As much people b**ch about gov payment mistakes etc, everything is digitalised and accessible in easily understandable manner, and disability friendly.

And that’s thanks to the Digital services in Estonia, UK representatives visited and worked with you to replicate your strategy. You have one of the best systems in the world.

Without this, UK would’ve been in the place many other countries where each gov department has its own different, disconnected and outdated system which don’t talk or aware of each other, and you still have to book an appointment for 3 months in advance to renew your driver’s license or passport, and print out and fill out 10 page form.

And that would’ve been even more devastating during the pandemic.

  15. We often beat ourselves up as Brits, but I’ve been impressed by our response to the Ukraine situation so far.

  16. > Dear people from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,

Oh boy, you don’t know what you’ve done by being factual on reddit…

  17. You’re welcome! I especially loved Tartu while I was there, and the prison quarry lake that we swam in. Even food in Rakvere was fantastic.

  18. Also an Estonian. I don´t think you in UK know how important you really are and have been to Estonia. Our independence war in 1918-1920 would have been much harder if not impossible without the support of British navy and your armaments support. During our time in NATO, Estonian troops have served along Brits in Afghanistan and shed blood together. Ever since Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014 UK has been a steadfast supporter of Estonia. I served my compulsory military service in Estonia and Brits were with us all the time. Extremely professional and friendly. I was saddened by your decision to leave EU, fearing it would push you away from us, but I am happy that I have been proven wrong.

I know there are a lot of countries that celebrate their independence from UK, but we in Estonia are squarely in the camp that celebrate our independence thanks to you! Thank you!
