It’s the economy stupid, housing in all its forms make up part of it. Go work harder and stop bitching.
I can’t predict if you believe in capitalism or not; I don’t think this is a complete argument, if you don’t.
Mom and pop owners aren’t the problem. It’s the corporate landlords who buy swaths of property. Stop letting them make us point fingers amongst ourselves.
Legislation The landlords may have wished for the fish to be put in the barrel so that they could use their shot gun, but the government did not have to give it to them.
Such a dumb take. How does that work when property prices collapse then?!
This is a spectacular way to let NIMBYism off the hook while you point the finger at landlords and they laugh at you. “Scalping” isn’t a problem when there is enough supply to meet demand. The people who keep housing supply artificially low are NIMBYs.
No that’s not really why housing is so expensive on my rent is so expensive, it’s because the establishment drove up shelter prices by shutting down cheap Alternatives or at least throttling back on cheap alternatives, the main cheap alternative that the establishment throttle back on was mobile homes.. specifically, state and local governments pass laws forbidding the transportation of older mobile homes for one place to another.. this cut back on the availability of cheap housing.. another way that mobile home cheap Supply of homes was reduced was through propaganda.. and through propaganda, this went down down back in the 90s. They poisoned the public mind against mobile homes.. by showing video of mobile homes being destroyed in hurricanes excessively.. and this poisoned the mind of younger people and gullible people . Now they hate mobile homes, and they wouldn’t want to live in one because they would feel low status.. well, it all goes back to the stupidity and vacuity and malleability of the human animal
It should be obvious to the most casual observer that the economy is run by the Oligarchy for the benefit of the Oligarchy. How do so many not understand this?
Pretty sure it is the government collecting land rent (property taxes).
Are you implying that people shouldn’t have housing unless they own? Hope everyone’s got 200k otherwise your on the streets
Landlords take on risk and opportunity cost by buying and renting to you
I personally don’t want to be a homeowner, and I don’t see landlords as extractitive to me. I find the opposite, they are doing me a service
ok then buy a portion of these apartments, like one does with a condo.
you don’t have to live in a rental. and you don’t have to live in a crappy rental.
Airbnb rentals are scalpers for housing definitely. Houses are bought at a premium and sit vacant for part of the month not being used.
Rentals are good for the economy, and people in general.
Government owned housing has proven time and time again to not be the answer. Not everyone can afford or wants to own a home. These people need somewhere to live. Rentals are a great choice for a short term ownership option.
Rentals have existed for as long as our modern system. It’s only recently that housing costs have exploded. There’s so much at play here, speculation is a large driver of the problem.
Just because you put Simpson characters in the graphic doesn’t make it a true statement.
Such a communist logic. Why do farmers make a surplus. Those greedy pigs
