  1. Lol, the prime minister says he’s doing this because he wants to “protect the kids” from short form videos but somehow doesn’t ban Instagram/Facebook Reels or Youtube Shorts.

  2. First country in Europe to do this, let’s hope everybody else follows through.

  3. i’m curious as to how far will the countries planning to ban tiktok actually go. will they block on the ISP DNS servers? IP block it? ban the most popular VPNs? block it from play store/app store?

  4. All these calls for bans on TikTok yet X is literally a breeding ground for racism and misinformation….

  5. Why just Tiktok? Might as well go the Australian route and block all social media.

  6. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced Saturday, December 21, that the government will shut down social network TikTok for at least a year starting at the beginning of 2025. During a meeting in Tirana with Albanian teachers, parents and psychologists Rama said that “TikTok is the thug of the neighborhood.”

    My mannnnn

  7. He’s a piece of shit trying to control free speech. A kid got stabbed outside the school and they are trying to manipulate the case because one of the stabbers is connected to the party in power. People have been protesting and have been asking for the resignation of the Education Minister, and more protections in schools. This fucking clown bans TIk Tok like that’s gonna solve anything.

  8. Guess most of you here are millennials but I can’t understand the TikTok hate. I’m Gen Z and frankly I don’t give a fuck if there is propaganda on TikTok. I still haven’t seen any examples and the app is still hilarious.

  9. Finally some news from Albania, thought they got cut off from the Internet

  10. > “In China, TikTok promotes how students can take courses, how to protect nature, how to keep traditions, but on TikTok outside China we see only scum and mud. Why do we need this?” Rama asked.

Why? Because China censors everything political and everything that might be upsetting from the internet. Apart from that, I don’t think the content on Douyin is so different from the content on Tiktok. It’s both mostly meaningless fluff.

  11. This is gonna spawn another app thats going to sell your info and spread misinformation. Facebook should’ve gone first to send a message.

  12. Kinda crazy how foreign adversaries can control what western citizens are fed on tiktok everyday and you have Elon Musk with Twitter too, curating and pumping out misinformation daily, which have led to riots and attacks, surely it’s time social media was regulated properly, its pretty astonishing the shit Elon is getting away with whilst European governments are asleep.

  13. Al-ban-ia. Al-ban-ia. You border on the Adriatic …

  14. As much as I hate social media, I think theres 2 main issues: Bad actors spreading misinformation and people who take headlines at face value and go no further to check their validity. The first issue wouldnt matter if everyone cared about the truth and did more diligent research on something they saw online. We need better digital literacy in our society

  15. Reading these comments makes me so happy I stayed far, *far* away from tiktok. I never saw why people liked it so much, I always saw it as an awful Vine ripoff. Then I started seeing the idiotic challenges and people addicted to it (I know people who bragged about having 40+ hours a week watching it)

I’ve said it from the start and I’ll say it until its a dead app. Tiktok is just a bunch of bullcrap that at best wastes time and at worst actively enables the worst behaviors in idiots

  16. I could use a year’s break from tiktok too. A gentle nudge by the government to do so would probably be enough. Nothing wrong here.
