But the whole illegal drugs thing is a U.S. generated problem
So is the whole gangs running avocados and other produce
And gangs running immigrant trafficking.
Especially migrant issues — take a look at the problems in the places they come from and what the Federal government has done to worsen it there.
Probably lot of drones and cruise missiles. The American people can ignore that, but not body bags.
Hmm war is great for the economy
just imagine this us is thinking to invade it’s neighbour should not the world sanction america now
The term “war on drugs” was popularized by the media after a press conference, given on June 17, 1971, during which President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse “public enemy number one”.
“invading” Mexico under the guise of targeting the cartels will only continue the failed policies and ensure that the value of narcotics will increase
**invades Mexico, then proceeds to ask how much to deport the illegals in Mexico City.**
I thought Trump ran on “keeping us out of war”??
> In 2019, Trump suggested sending troops to Mexico for “help in cleaning out” drug cartels.
>
> “If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,”
The military has been using the media to build up hate towards the cartels by having videos of Americans getting kidnapped for the past few years.
When the military left Afghanistan, you pretty much knew they were doing coups worldwide until they could trigger a war.
Ukraine, China, Russia, Israel, etc.
DFT
big profits from fentanyl, carfenatil, and methamphetamine
creating and causing human suffering on a new untold scale
You can tell a country is actually run by mobsters when its leaders keep on making outrageous proposals to distract the public with pointless debates, while quietly changing laws and regulations in order to deprive the citizens from their rights and the wealth they create.
Is this to “stop” the war on drugs? So it’s Becuase Mexico isn’t properly maintaining their boarders?
This is a terrible idea. We don’t want a hostile country on our border for other nations to exploit. Anything we gain is peanuts to the big picture there in addition to it being completely immoral and not what our country should be about.
Fuck Trump
Mods, are you going to actually moderate this sub? At this point, just merged with r/politics and get it over with.
This crap is going to cause a *ton* of uncertainty in the markets which is going to make companies pull back on hiring and investment.
We are in for one hell of a recession. JFC what have we done?
This is the Putins plan. Weaken all American international relations, Trump says in a way to have support of his base while it’s weaken more and more the country.
Yeah, I’m to the point that I don’t believe anything T – man says.
Context :
This is certainly an economic question.
By allowing the “private sector” to have an allocated [ see state monopoly capitalism] monopoly, methamphetamine, carfentanil, cocaine, and fentanyl [ and heroin, if it still out there and there are still some old school heroin users ]
I’m assuming the use of special operations and paramilitary operations assets to engage in direct action with cartels?
Delta force was used to track down and take down Pablo Escobar.
I don’t know how I feel about this tbh. On one hand it would make sense if it were a joint operation between Mexico and the US, but so much of Mexico’s government is compromised. I think that would be difficult.
Also I imagine if this did in fact happen, it’ll be likely very violent. Cartel groups are imo more or less terror groups.
I do believe the war on drugs has been a complete failure and has caused a lot of damage to society. I don’t think we are going to reverse that course though.
The cartels have charged 5-15 thousand dollars for 10-20 million illegal immigrants over the last 4 years and have acquired tremendous political power because of that. It will require more than simply asking the governments of their countries for help.
🤣
I wonder if he is planning to invade Canada as well because he wants to link Alaska to the rest of the US contiguously…..
The headline makes it sound more crazy than it actually is (still pretty crazy, but it’s more in line with what the U.S. has done in South America in the past):
> “This “soft invasion” would involve American special forces assassinating cartel leaders in Mexico, another source close to the president-elect told Rolling Stone.”
> “If Mexico needs or requests help in cleaning out these monsters, the United States stands ready, willing & able to get involved and do the job quickly and effectively,” Trump tweeted. “The great new President of Mexico has made this a big issue, but the cartels have become so large and powerful that you sometimes need an army to defeat an army!”
> “Senator Marco Rubio, Trump’s pick for secretary of state, previously endorsed the idea of sending U.S. troops to Mexico to combat drug cartels, but under the condition that “there is cooperation from the Mexican government,” Rolling Stone reports.”
So this isn’t really declaring a war or toppling the Mexican government, this is mainly about using the military to confront the drug cartels.
Which again, is still not great. But it’s also not our equivalent of Russia’s War with Ukraine.

Seems a bit of over reach

Wouldn’t it be more effective to invade [McKinsey](https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-resolution-criminal-and-civil-investigations-mckinsey-companys) and the commercial [drug companies](https://nida.nih.gov/sites/default/files/images/fig2-2024.jpg)?
It’s not Trump.
