1. I thought it was for double dipping federal workers who already get a federal pension and social security on top of that.

2. I hardly consider this shocking. The GOP hates the working class.

10. Yeah, this is outrageous, but the article should be more specific.

    What happened is that, if you’ll notice Teeter worked for a governmental agency (Teacher, Police, Paramedic etc)you would probably be paying into PERS (Public Employee Retirement System) and not Social Security. The problem is then you do not get any credit for the times you may have paid into Social Security in another job (BTW this is my understanding so correct me if someone has more information).

    The bill was just passed to credit those individuals so they can collect their PERS and their Social Security and these GOP senators voted against it. However I believe it did pass.

14. This doesn’t shock me at all. Republicans vote against the benefits of the very people who put them in those offices. You can go back and look at their No votes. History repeats itself.

    Social Security needs to be solidified for all future generations, but at this rate it will run out of money possibly by 2035.

    Otherwise, they would have passed this law AND pass a law requiring those earning more than $168,600 continue to pay into social security. That would ensure social security’s solvency.
