17 youth soccer players and their families came together to scrimmage on Saturday for a common goal: to uplift Mark’s wife Lynita and his son Max, during this devastating time.
“I love seeing them, it definitely brings my mood up, you know, just good,” Max said.
These people are the Spain’s soccer family. They’ve spent years traveling together, practicing together and being there for each other. “We can all just stay together, this helps us bond a lot more, so we’ll always be here for Max and anyone when something happens,” Liam Anderson, Max’s former teammate, said.
“It’s bigger than a sport, so I think laying the foundation of team is instrumental to the kids’ growth on and off the field,” Andrew Kappler, Max’s former coach, said.
They told us Mark was one of their own.
“We all were deeply touched by his impact on the soccer community and the community at large. And as a result, it was an absence, it was a void in everyone’s life,” Maria Spaudling, a member of Max’s soccer family, said.
So the soccer family wanted to help out in any way they could.
Not only are they sporting purple for Mark and pancreatic cancer awareness, but they are also selling t-shirts and sweatshirts in remembrance of Mark, and all the money goes to the Spain’s.
“We want them to be supported for years to come, so when they see somebody out in the public with a t-shirt on that says, “Spain Strong,” they can remember the legacy that was left by Mark, and the impact he had on this community,” Sharidy Maccord, another member of Max’s soccer family said.
Mark called everyone else his sunshines, but the kids told us, Mark was theirs.
So in support of Lynita and Max, they want to live like he did, whether they are on or off the field.
With laughter, light and a whole lot of love.
