Hallo. I am starting my studies in Germany in April. My dream was to secure a job before arriving, but it feels somewhat unlikely now.

I have a bachelor in Computer Science and I am pursuing a Master’s in software development. Even though many jobs do not require German, most seem to require it. As someone who started learning 2 months ago on Doulingo (apparently an ineffective method), I am no way near speaking German fluently.

I have no professional experience in software engineering or development.

I would really REALLY like to have a part-time job, as it would be uplifting financially and provide me with experience. There are plenty of “werkstudent” positions advertised on LinkedIn, StepStone, [Monster.de](https://Monster.de), but the key is to find one that fits my profile and close to the location where I’ll be studying. Anywhere in Hessen would be good enough.

So if you are/were an international student who secured a part-time job in Germany quickly, how long did it take you? Are you fluent in German? What’s your field? How did you prepare for interviews? Where did you study? Feel free to share anything else that might be helpful!

  1. Are you coming on a student visa or not? Keep in mind, if you’re entering from a privileged country as a tourist, you can’t start working until your student residence permit is approved.

  2. idk which uni you study at but if im assuming the program is English taught since you mentioned you only recently started learning german, you might find a student job at the university as an assistant, so it doesnt hurt asking your faculty if theres something available for you ^-^

best of luck on your studies!
