Who the fuck is Madge Ure? (Googling him turns up some baldy, dour looking rat
Geldof is an absolute fart compared to Lynott and I’m not even a fan of This Lizxy
Geldof has always been a prick but Thin Lizzy had disbanded, had huge drug problems, and though I love Thin Lizzy, they were never a huge band, U2, Duran Duran, Queen etc were.
Phil did shag Paula Yates and that’s why Geldof left him on voicemail. All his mates were on the lash at Live Aid, so Phil hopped on a plane and barged into RTE to do the coverage (and have a Sunday Roast at his mom’s gaff!)
If you search for “gobshite” online you’ll see a photo of Geldorf
Wasn’t aware of any snub at the time, but I’d believe they never even thought of Lizzy at the time. As for Sales? FFS Lizzy sold more albums than the Boomtown Rats, didn’t stop them from performing at Live Aid.
The band didn’t seem to have a problem with Geldof either, after Philo’s passing he sung Cowboy Song himself with Lizzy at self-aid.
Anyway, a lot of them gone- thanks for the tunes and RIP.
I’m no fan of that prick Geldof but let’s be honest, six months before his death poor Phil was probably strung out on heroin and in no shape to perform.
He should have asked GRANDSLAM
If Live Aid could only accommodate successful bands then wtf were Boomtown Rats asked?
Unfathomably Bassed.
“Rock” bands weren’t asked to be part of Band Aid, with the notable exceptions of Bono, and Status Quo, who were arguably making pop singles at the time. Even Phil Collins was a pop star at the time. Go through the band aid line up and pick out the rock stars. There are practically none.
On the flip side they needed those rock stars to pull of love aid though.
