American (the continent) here, I've lived for almost 7 years in Finland and I always noticed that the racism here is quite low comparing to other countries like e.g. italy, but with so few sirians and getting lower and now that the war hopefully has completely over, what do you think about refugees and Foreigners? In the sense that; how do you think it impacts your country? Mostly negative? I remember knowing a guy saying that the refugees took most of the taxas income due to that they were unemployed and they tend to have more kids as they get support from the government, this person was quite young so I didn't took it seriously, but, is that the general opinion? So, trying to not start hate here but constructive opinion, could you teach me a bit about the topic.

I do have finnish friends, but, you see, not a topic i like to touch with them.

My own opinion is; Refugees don't like to live in Finland (i have met few myself) and they leave as soon as they can and they are so few that they don't really impact the vero budget or represent any change in finnish statistics. About Foreigners, most of them leave after 2 years and the few that stay they do contribute strongly to the country, mostly working and in some cases culturaly.

  1. In my circle of friends (middle class, university educated, capital region) and family the general consensus is that all foreigners who come to work and integrate to our society and obey the laws are more than welcome. Those people that only come here to take advantage of our welfare system are not welcome.

I dont see any racism about this. It is not based on ones skin color or any that kind of factor. Purely on ones own behaviour and actions.

  2. I’m just a bit scared of the bad apples in the bunch especially after all that’s happened in Sweden.

  3. Personally I don’t mind refugees or immigrants if they contribute to the society in some way when they settle in. Also abiding the rules/laws of our country. Lately I’ve seen news about shootings, m*rders or attempts of one or even terrorism in different countries which makes me sad because it really gives bad look on rest of the immigrants and will cause them trouble with the locals and might face more racism than they already do. Just like during the peak corona times the Asians would face more discrimination and hate from others just because the origin of the virus was from Asia. My mother is one those people who just hate on immigrants no matter what but I think it’s just the old school way of thinking? Older people tend to be less open minded and more old fashioned and stuck to their ways. I try to keep open mind to the changes of the country and the world as whole but sometimes it is hard because of select few who cause trouble.

  4. Idk if they study language, educate themselves, get employed and respect and adapt to our norms then its fine
