Thank you to all the hardworking and dedicated retail workers out there!

  1. And everyone don’t forget – it’s their fault there are big queues, so please remember to be extra rude to them.

  2. Well, now I’m dreading going to work after seeing this photo

  3. And for the love of god, stop taking trolleys full of shopping to the self checkouts.

I just want a meal deal and I’m waiting behind people with a trolly full.

  4. Makes you yearn for the days of limited customers and you must shop alone.

    Beautiful peaceful times

  5. I’m glad I did my final shop before Christmas on Friday. It was fine at 2.30pm as that’s when people are heading out to pick up kids from school, busy on the road but quiet in the shop.

I knew it would be busy over the weekend and absolute chaos today.

  6. It is crazy. I went to my local ASDA this morning and could not find what I was looking for so I did what I normally do and a I approached a guy stacking shelves further down the isle and politely asked him where I find the item (bonjela).

It was obvious he was pretty stressed as he gave out a huff that I suspect he thought I did not hear.

Having said that, he did accompany me further down the isle to where he thought the item was and spent a lot of time trying to find it and even went and asked if there was any more in stock as he could not see any, (none in stock).

Bottom line: I totally get the stress and the huff but he still came round and was very helpful. It can’t be easy.

  7. I’m very pleased with myself I went to the supermarket at 6am on Saturday

I will equally as displeased with my wife when she says ‘oh we need x can you nip to the shop’ tomorrow

  8. Went to my local supermarket this morning, parked right outside (not in the car park). Used the Shop & Scan thingy and it worked a treat. They had everything I needed and there wasn’t even a queue. What a fucking result 💪🏼 🎅

  9. Maybe I’ll save the shopping until tomorrow. Tomorrow will be fine right?

  10. As an ex-postie I’d say they deserve a shout out too.
Get absolutely run ragged at this time of year.

  11. We did our final shop at Waitrose (yes yes I know) yesterday and loads of spaces in the car park and it wasn’t anywhere as bad as we expected. Morrisons on the other hand was like Squid Games.

  12. And also thank you for the lazy and undedicated ones, they also contribute!

  13. I have just popped into big Tesco to grab a couple bits (sorry) I never shop Tesco but had a voucher from work, when I politely asked an employee a question they jumped and said sorry I was expecting you to be rude 😂 I feel for these guys

  14. I went Tesco on Christmas eve last year to pick up something for lunch. A lot of customers was miserable and acting up towards retail workers. Seriously, its your own fault, be more organised instead of doing everything last minute and taking it out on the retail workers.

  15. And to all of the people that don’t work hard too. Fuck your company.

  16. Don’t know why people leave it so late, this is my version of hell and I avoid it.

  17. Akin to the concept of national service, I feel like it would make the world a better place if everyone had to do a week of Christmas retail work.

  18. Maybe I’m just a grinch but I will never understand Christmas Apocalypse shoppers.

It is one day’s worth of food, even if you’re planning the most extravagant gluttony over Christmas. The day will not be ruined because you forgot that one item when everyone will be consuming 5,000 calories anyway.

  19. I don’t mind the queuing, I don’t mind the wait, or the noise.

I *do mind* the Muppet who has had 20 minutes preparation time by the time they get to the till, and still hasn’t got any idea where their card is.
Or who has taken a trolley into the much smaller basket-only tills and now is in everyone’s way.
Or wants to hold up the line while they send little billy to swap the strawberry yogurt for raspberry.
I particularly mind the trolley blockades, and how precious people get because I move your trolley out from the middle of the isle.

  20. The shops close 2 days a year and people shop like it’s the last food on earth.

  21. We need to go to the supermarket to pick up some chocolates and other goodies and my other half is keen to get out of the house and get on with it. I’m trying to delay things for exactly this reason. I never go between 10am and 2pm on a Monday on a good day as it is, so I’m definitely not keen to go on the Monday before Xmas.

  22. And a big shout out to the emergency service workers, the nurses and doctors, public transport folk, the bin men who have to clear up the mess afterwards. Indeed everybody who for one brief moment in time were recognised as ‘essential workers’, without whom the country would fall to bits.

  23. Yeah, I’m a veteran of the Christmas trenches. Never again.

  24. Sainsburys have got rid of pretty much all the check in staff its a joke!

  25. Yeah will all these extra profits you are making in what you call a difficult time, pass on to your staff. Rant over happy holidays all.

  26. Just remember if you’re moaning about the queues or amount of people

    You are the queue

“Oh but I just wanted to nip in and grab an item or two that I forgot” – and so did a lot of them

  27. Thank you to all the Delivery drivers too! My shopping will be arriving tomorrow morning and I haven’t had to tackle a Christmas supermarket in years.

There will of course be a random selection of substitutions, but that’s what makes it fun! Christmas surprises! As long as there is a turkey we’ll be grand.

  28. I used to work retail and I don’t miss those days. This time of year can be a nightmare. I understand it’s stressful, but please try to be nice to the staff. People are so quick to be rude and condescending and even a few pleasant interactions really make a big difference.

  29. As a retail worker who’s currently stood in the cold waiting for a bloody delivery truck, thank you.

  30. I was just in Tesco this morning and it was utter chaos. I decided to use the trolly self service and the machine just didn’t like me at all. The poor employee had to essentially approve every item I scanned because the weight sensor didn’t seem to be working. She was an absolute angel while dealing with me and all the other people around.

  31. Is this people getting up and out early to beat the queues that they are actually creating by all having the same idea

  32. Was in Tesco yesterday, the staff were walking around the queues with tubs of Celebrations and offering them out while we waited.

  33. “wow it’s so busy!” You are here. You are the busy. Thank God I did my retail time!
