Ofcourse they do
I think the democratic world needs to stop applying their own rules onto countries that don’t even follow rules.
So the rule of law says evidence is needed for conviction. But:
(1) investigation is the prerequisite and part of this rule, would China ever cooperate?
(2) would China ever admit to anything? Would they ever be honest?
(3) even if convicted, would China ever accept consequences?
There’s just zero point in applying our own rules on China. Convicting them and letting them try to actively prove it’s not them would be somewhat more efficient. And it’s not like they’d do this anyways. With countries like China and Russia, the only way to truly communicate with them is by their own “language”, not ours… Besides, so many things are so obvious to everyone already. China even pretty much indirectly admits to things and just threatens the world to stop saying and caring. Normally what’s stopping the world from further disputes with them is no other than the very attractive market and workforce of China. Hopefully the world knows to decouple with them some time. The only way this world remains peaceful is when China and Russia needs the world, definitely not when the world needs them. They will always weaponize those reliance.
Chinese ships will have to pay for an escort while in the Baltic sea moving forward.
Easy as that
Criminal refused police involvement.
If this is correct, there needs to be consequences.
First, the investigation must then be conducted by the Swedish. The law must be changed to add a contingency if the flagged country refuses to cooperate.
There must be consequences.
Maybe a couple sanctions on China will get their cooperation
Simple response : okay, no more chinese ships in the Baltic ports until China admits to state sponsored terrorism
ban their entry at EU ports and lets see what happens 🤔
I wonder why… being neutral as they are…
Hopefully they will get banned from docking at ports in the EU, less plastic rubbish for Europe to deal with.
Plausible deniability!
They’ve resumed operations. So once the ship gets safely back to Chinese waters, the Chinese will declare the investigation over and that will be that.
To be fair, this is probably more than we would have hoped for. The Russian Captain expected to just sail away and nothing happen at all. A few weeks long pretend investigation by the Chinese might be enough blowback to dissuade the Russians from doing this en-mass.
When are the Nordic countries going to see the reality, Chinese merchant vessels are weapons of war. It’s almost time to stop Chinese ships from entering the Baltic if they can’t be accountable for their actions.
That is arguably an act of war. Stop letting Russia and China do this stuff. Impound the ship until the owner pays for the cable repairs and resulting economic damage.
We should also lay spare cables over routes less vulnerable to interference, so overland between Norway, Sweden and Finland, with extra cables to other Western nations. I suggest that cutting internet connections into Russia for as long as the cables remain unfixed would also be a good idea.
Chinas is obsessed with “The One China” idea, but im thinking we in the west maybe should be betting on the other China. It seems to me that the Taiwan based china is much more in our part of the woods…..
Edit: typo accidently slipped an å inthere….
