World wheat prices break 2008 record

  1. Are these adjusted for inflation? Obviously the wheat price is extraordinarily high right now, but to say it’s higher than 2008 prices without considering inflation seems a bit silly. This article does not mention whether that’s accounted for.

  2. Luckily the EU has spent the past 30 years supporting the adoption of genetically engineered crops on the basis of sound scientific advice with no influence from unhinged NIMBYs and uninformed moral panic.

  3. Ukraine is ranked globally (!!!!)

    – 1st in sunflower oil

    – 6th in corn production

    – 6th in Barley production

    – 7th in rapeseed production

    – 9th in wheat production

    – 9th in soybean production

But wait, there is more. Natural gas is a key input for fertilizer production and we all know how that is going.

  4. It’ll be the people who are the least deserving who’ll bear the brunt of this fledgling crisis, but one grimy silver lining to this is giving us a taste of what’s to come with disruption to food supplies through climate change. But will we heed the lesson?

  5. So the Ukrainian refugee wave will be dwarfed by an African refugee wave. Russia fucked Europe up real bad.

  6. Germans can eat Russian oil ad gas, since they oppose the ban, for example.

Ban fucking oil and gas for a while, and this war will end in no time.
