‘It’s pure beauty:’ Italy’s largest medieval mosaics restored at the cathedral of Monreale in Palermo

  1. It’s fascinating to learn about the extensive restoration of Italy’s largest Byzantine-style mosaics, which cover more than 6,400 square meters (second-biggest in the world behind Hagia Sophia in Istanbul).

    Work by artisans at the UNESCO World Heritage site took more than a year. The mosaics had been partly restored in 1978 , but this projectn had a much wider scope and it included replacing the old lighting system.

  2. Ottima notizia. Esempio di come anche (e forse potrei dire soprattutto) in Italia ci sia spazio per materie e lavori culturali ed è un fallimento del mondo del lavoro che non si riesca a dare un futuro stabile a chi studia materie artistiche e letterarie, anche se non genere il classico valore per gli azionisti
