I got this beer stein for Christmas from my dad. It was from when his dad was in the service in the early 1950s. He is no longer with us so I can’t ask him about it. Just looking for some basic information if anyone knows anything. I can only find color version of this. There are two more that are exactly the same.

Germans don’t call it a “stein”. FYI. It’s a “krug”
It says “whos asleep…” on one side and “…doesn’t sin” on the other. But no idea where from or anything. It might just be a generic steinkrug bought in a cornerstore or something
That is most likely not a Bierkrug, but a Weinkrug to drink wine from. The shape, size and wine motif on it are typical for those. The lid is most likely tinnand a super common, stamped shape. Since there are no discernable markings at all, it’s unlikely to be a product the producer cared about. Krüge like this one are usually found in Souvenir Shops and were popular hobby collectors items around the time you describe (50s/60s). They are usually pretty hard to track down since they were industrially made and changed designs quite often
Considering the typeface, it has likely been made after 1940.
