  1. Someones angry they didn’t get the gift they wanted it seems!

  2. See somewhere it said he had a knife … so fuck him, no point risking an officers life for the sake of some nob head.

  3. Get the pitchforks out lads!
We know nothing but let’s assume everything.

  4. Very sad news. Poor officer has to spend Christmas day (and a lot longer) coming to terms with that.

  5. Before I’m outraged, I need to know how brown he was.

  6. so they shot a man who yes had a knife but there was no one else in the property….? who called the police? why did they need to shoot him? if it was a gun i’d understand a bit more but don’t armed police have stab-proof vests like just knock the guy out and take him in. sounds like a psychotic episode if he was alone.

  7. “Man with knife” could have described my boyfriend in the kitchen making breakfast this morning.

There was “no one else inside the property”, so what the fuck actually happened?

    Why was he shot dead?

  8. This is pretty bad. If the police already feels entitled to shoot people in Redditch, they’re essentially two letters away from starting shooting people on Reddit.

  9. He should have been on Reddit rather than Redditch, might still be alive that way.

    Couldn’t resist. 🤭

  10. I thought we had tasers bean bag guns many non lethal that could have been effective. Maybe they all failed.

  11. UK famous for not using lethal force. An array of non lethal options like tasers, rubber bullets and beanbag guns.
Wonder what happened that a knife had to bring a situation to fatality given the options.

  12. Maybe wait until we know the full details before we judge

  13. I’ve already seen people saying that we’re ‘becoming like America’.

    No.

According to Statista, police in the US killed 1,353 people in 2023. *In the entire period from 1990 to 2022*, UK police killed a total of 83. We have 21% of the population of the US, but only 0.2% of the police killings.

So rare is it for someone to be killed by police in the UK, there is even a [Wikipedia article](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_Kingdom) listing each incident. In the US, the events in Redditch would not even make the news.

  14. I do find it concerning that people are being shot. It worries me we will develop into little America.

I’ve had a few experiences with people and knives through my career but I’ve never felt the need to have a weapon my self. The most recent cut someone down who had tied a hoover power cable around their neck in the stairs while suffering a mental health episode. Luckily we got to the quickly, after a slight scuffle they pulled a 8 inch knife, I stood my ground and as they came close in grabbed the arm hold the knife and took it off them. They ended up detained in hospital.

We all know there are so many other way to subdue someone. There’s sprays, tasers, rubber bullets, gas, some PPE and strength.

Unless the person was holding a knife to someone i struggle with shooting ever being an option.

    Just my personal opinion.
