Johnson was enjoying acting like the big man on the Ukraine situation a few weeks ago, and now he’s got fuck all to show for it now it’s finally come to a head.
Kudos to Germany. I thought that they wouldn’t cancel Nord Stream 2 over Ukraine, but they finally seem to have stepped up and done it. They’ve put sanctions in place, even at their own expense, while the Tories are making us look all bark and no bite for refusing to handle Russian cash that flows through London.

Despite all the warnings about the overt influence of russian money, even from our own security instituations, nothing has been done and our response is lack luster, especially when compared to other countries.

If you make an assumption that Putin wasn’t born yesterday and that he has a reasonable grasp of international politics, you would have to assume that anything we can plausibly respond with is something he already anticipates and has accepted. He’s not going to go “damn, sanctions on oligarchs, better turn the tanks around!”
This isn’t saving Ukraine or doing anything meaningful, this is just making it so that Russia has to pay a price for taking Ukraine. A price the Russians are already aware of and are willing to pay.
We need to offer to take a share of refugees from Ukraine – which personally I think would be a more meaningful response for the Ukrainians right now who are in a desperate state
