Looks delicious.
Are you in Prison?
My Mum always used to make “fry up” with leftover from a Sunday roast, every thing cooked up in a frying pan with extra gravy added, it was delicious
Grim
Looks like someone’s ruined perfectly good bubble & squeak by putting gravy in it.
I prefer a nosh off personally
Not sure if this is a ‘English’ thing, never heard of it before – could be wrong though
What we in my family call “orts”, although they don’t quite look like that
Why does this read like we don’t celebrate Christmas in Scotland and it’s your first time experiencing left-overs 😂
Looks dire
I’m confused why people think this looks bad. Imagine mixing up everything on your Christmas dinner plate. It looks like basically the same thing to me.
Christmas dinner pie in the oven as we speak. Pretty much that in a pastry case. Winner.
Looks more like the tray we split for the family dogs.
I have not had that before, but l did mix the veg with a couple of eggs and fry it into a patty. A bit like eggy bubble and squeak!
Looks fucking banging
We usually have bubble and squeak made from the leftovers which never looks particularly appetizing but is delicious
I am making Christmas soup as we speak, leftovers in a pot with stock.
I do this but in a casserole dish, topped off with mashed tattie like a shepherd’s pie, with leftover stuffing through the mash. It’s in the oven right now.
Exquisite, as are the farts afterwards.
My auntie always used to chat to my dad about him getting a good nosh after the kids have gone to bed. Now I know what they meant
It reminds me of the tactical puke I did late yesterday
Bit of pastry or mash on top of that
Reminds me of the meme, “Why do the British still eat like they are in WW2”.
But seriously I bet that tastes nice. Is that like leftover chicken and stuff?
But one of you nations treasured meals derives from leftovers in the form of stovies and making soups from leftovers or bones.
Looks like the remains left in the bog after a Christmas dinner and way too much booze
We do cold turkey and ham, left over stuffing gets chucked in the gravy and reheated, left over root veg and mushy peas get reheated and we cook chips.
Bash the gravy over that lot and it’s amazing.
I put my leftovers in a pie
Was exquisite
Are you Oliver Twist?
I’m doing this right now – but I’ll be adding gravy separately. It’s not a soup lol.
Add some chips to this and it’ll be lovely
I would slap some of that in some pastry and make Christmas dinner pasties
Take cold cut leftovers. Make hot things, bubble and squeak + homemade chips. Mix with pickled stuff, cabbage and onions. Add sauces, spicy is better. This be the boxing day lunch of champions.
This swill you’ve been served, do you swig it out of some sort of goblet? Or a bowl with a spoon? Or with your bare hands like a savage?
You’ve got almost all the ingredients necessary for the ultimate in Christmas dining, the “leftover Christmas dinner pizza”
Boxing day tradition in our house, home made dough, gravy instead of tomato sauce, bit of grated mozzarella (for the stringy cheese), all the leftovers, grated cheddar, crumbled Wensleydale and cranberry. It’s the absolute dog’s danglies!
Never had leftover hash/bubble&squeak OP?
This looks like a particularly bad version of it, but it’s insanely common.
Pass.
If you dish up from separate plates and store them in the fridge, Bubble & Squeak is just Christmas Dinner but somehow better.
Have to fry it up and add the gravy after, though. The Crispiness is the most important thing by far.
Le creuset – can’t be from the scottish side
Bit jealous spent Christmas with my family and they oddly did not refrigerate any of the food…
Looks great! Leftovers, fry up, warm up, bubble and squeak – no matter what you call it, it tastes great and is brilliant for not wasting all that lovely leftover Christmas dinner (besides making sandwiches, curries or stews out of the meats).
All the people turning their noses up at this are probably middle to upper class twats with kids named Tarquin. You can stuff your lobster thermidor up your jacksie while the rest of us normal folk enjoy are leftovers. The same posh gobshites probably slag this off, but then praise similar looking food from India or Africa due to how wonderfully ‘ethnic’ it is.
To everyone enjoying their leftovers this boxing day, you continue to crack on and I hope you’re all having a lovely time!
Like the idea what is it?
So they have no turkey, ham, cheese, crackers and other nibbly bits on boxing day?
Looks like throw up.
At the risk of offending folks, how is that in any way appealing?
Nice, we’ve just fried our leftovers, tasted bloody lush.
Not Scottish but I have just fried up all our left overs with half a pound of butter. Boxing day left overs are a thing.
That’s a stew.
And it looks mighty fine!
Not enough mash potato to be Irish leftovers (bubble and squeak)
That looks bloody tasty.. can’t beat a leftovers stew. Bit of white pepper and a slice or 2 of buttered white crusty bread with it and enjoy!
We’ve started a food tradition of having leftovers in a fresh baked baguette with thick gravy as the sauce, Boxing Day Baguette™
Anyone else’s family have the tradition of making a curry?
…you’re from Scotland not Saudi Arabia. This is hardly a difference between nationalities. Just a family different lol.
