This is good news. I’ve lived in the countryside all my life and in places that had hunts. Contrary to the Countryside Alliance’s claim that this is a town Vs village argument it isn’t. I realise I’m a sample of one, but vanishingly few people I’ve met in the countryside support fox hunting. Furthermore, most of the people on the hunts weren’t even local – more likely to be from big towns.
Legalise weed and use the saved policing money to enforce this ban. That’s what I say

Reported a fox hunt Christmas Eve, was happening at the time, police weren’t interested

My autistic nephew and his mum were out walking when a bunch of shitheads from The Milton Estate surrounded them with barking dogs and horses. They think they also had a shotgun.
They slowly closed in on them before leading them back to their car and off the public right of way they were illegally hunting on.
My nephew was terrified for hours. I wanted to get my hands on them but it was reported to the police who did absolutely nothing.
So many of these people should be in jail.
For clarity, it was the shit eating, animal torturing, moldy cunt flap loving MILTON ESTATE.
Any activity apart from work needs to be banned. That is the way forward.
I hope everyone realises trail hunting is not fox hunting. They send a runner out with a scent and the dogs chase the runner with the hunt. No foxes involved. It’s just a sport at this point I don’t see why it should be banned if there is nothing cruel happening.
Where there is evidence of animals being harmed in trail hunts the police absolutely should investigate if they have the resources; but as it stands I can think of a great many crimes that should take higher priority.
I see this as political posturing to erase a tradition that riles up Labour core voters.
Time to finish what labour originally started.
Consign hunting in whatever form to history.

I’d prefer our conservation efforts going to well, literally any other more endangered or ecologically important animal, I’d particularly favour birds, fighting the climate crisis on a practical basis means wind power and lots of it. One of the few actual negative side effects of the things (never really got why people say they are ugly) is that they kill birds, additional conservation funding should be able to deal with or at least mitigate this negative side effect of our energy transition.
In other words nothing will be done.
And we all know it.

I just watched the 10 o’clock news and trail hunting has replaced fox hunting, meaning that no animals are actually hunted on the day?

There is a dog sport called hound trailing where the dogs are given a scent to follow and the run cross country in a race.
And then theres fox hunting.
One is a genuine dog sport where the dogs are trained to follow an odour only, wear gps collars in case they get lost and are vigorously trained to ignore all distractions and follow a specific scent for miles.
While the other is rich toffs on horses ‘trailing’ when in reality they are fox hunting on private land and treat their animals like shit.
They could ban it with a stroke of a pen, but they won’t
