my dad’s side is Latvian and he’s never really opened up about it. growing up in Texas you don’t meet many Latvians either. I’ve been trying to learn all I can, I’m just super happy he’s finally talking about it! ❤️🤍❤️

any recommendations for books or anything else to help learn more about Latvia. I feel like I’ve exhausted the internet lol.
Well any book is good, try the book Zīmogs sarkanā vaskā. It is filled with pagan mysticism, christian invasion, honor and morality in a savage setting.
Dear god I wanted to live & Sidney via Siberia (both can be intense reads tho)
The Taste Of Lead is a good one.
Latvian language is not Baltic-Slavic. It just Baltic. Not a linguist but there are no similarities with slavic someyhing…
Wow, he used the Austrian flag
Sarkanais Dzīvsudrabs (Red Mercury) by Arno Jundze is a very great book if you’re willing to concentrate on more than one main story (if you like a more single-line story then this book is not for you).
It revolves around multiple storylines with many different characters. Basically, the setting is late 1980s, early 1990s Latvia. It’s about the fall of the Soviet Union and how people’s daily lives where affected by it (all these stories are fictional but are somewhat based upon how people got around back then and give you an idea what it was like).
Why is he sending Austrian flags XD
So sweet, I’m happy for you. Do hang out around here, I’m sure we can help you with discovering about this side of your ancestry.
I don’t wanna be that person, but if you REALLY wanna learn about Latvia the best bet is to visit. You can’t taste the food, talk to Latvians and feel the vibe and culture through the internet. Its your choice by the end the day though.
There are other half-Lats out here! Good luck in your journey. 🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
Actually it’s with an ī-
Es mīlu tevi is the correct way to say it.
I may be a turd at it, but it’s still my first language so I know SOMETHING.
You have awesome daddy ❤️🇱🇻
Latvia is a stunning country. I hope you get to visit one day
Latvian is a Baltic language for sure… not Slavic though.
“The language is pretty exotic” – as a native this rubs me so wrong! 😀
“Au Janka! Beidz bezdēt dīvānā un nokāp uz pagrabu – atstiep šu buļbas!” – now thats some exotic stuff right there!
