Update 18.12.2024: Holyhead port is closed until 15th January 2025! https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2024/1217/1486965-holyhead-closure/
Somehow this topic is kind of ignored but affects many people: Holyhead port was damaged in Storm Darragh and closed since Saturday. There will be no ferry until the 20th December:

It is possible that the blockade will last longer, given the information policy. Stena Line shows ferries from tomorrow on as still "in time".
I just can advise anyone, who had plans to take a route over Holyhead to avoid it! I had to go around myself over Rosslare and Fishguard.
edit: A delay to the reponening on the 20th ist somewhat possible: https://www.rte.ie/news/uk/2024/1214/1486519-holyhead-port/

This is also what’s screwing up a *lot* of Christmas deliveries. The landbridge through Wales is completely messed up now, and the alternate ports don’t have anywhere near enough Customs capacity.
This is the part where people should go and check out the Irish stores in that gift thread on here. There’s some incredible and unique Irish sellers on there who won’t be having to import in from the UK to fulfill orders.
This is going to mess up a lot of people’s plans to get home for Christmas/New Year too.
Was planning to do Dub-Holyhead on Thursday 19th and Holyhead-Dub on Friday 20th – am I right to expect a full refund from Irish Ferries since there’s no sailings on the 19th?
I’m travelling Holyhead Dublin at early Sat morning and was completely unaware of this. Any delays to the reopening and I’m fucked.
Thanks for the post. I’ll definitely be chasing it up Monday to make sure it’s still running and I won’t be affected. 3 hours on top of a very long drive if I have to do Fishguard – Rosslare will be hell.
Fire up the Chaapa’ai!
If they offer an alternative crossing but you can’t make it I’m assuming they will refund for that?
well fuck!

I had a Jan 15 crossing with a pet. 😑 didn’t get notice of canceled trip until yesterday, and now I can’t get through on either the phone or on the website to book the Rosslare ferry. Am in the US and have been trying website at all hours…Is anyone else able to load the Stenaline trip booking page properly?
