Good get the tankies fucked off. Id like to vote for Labours economic policies but I cannot vote for people who take Putins side at every opportunity. It really matters if the prime minister viscerally hates his own country.
The Ukraine military and government are currently standing firm in the face of an invasion and these guys don’t even have the balls to keep their names on a statement.
I’m not agreeing with stwc, but I am saying those who do (did?) have crumbled very quickly.
The main agenda of the letter is to try alternatives to war to strive for peace. So, like, sit down with putin and take him for a nice meal and ask him to please stop. If not we will be really sad?

When they say “NATO’s eastward expansion”, what they mean is countries close to Russia choosing to join. Unlike the Warsaw Pact, NATO has never forced any country to join; those that do so typically do because of Russia’s long history of invading neighbouring countries.
Russia claiming to feel threatened by its former satellite states joining a defensive alliance – or building up their militaries – is like a domestic abuser claiming to feel threatened by their ex taking self-defence classes. It’s a psychotically abusive manoeuvre, and shame on any fucking rubes who fall for it.

It’s disappointing to see; whether one stands by their principles or folds at the soonest bit of pressure.
Maybe the Russian invasion of Ukraine is actually the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and not just another space for Labour to play out its silly little internal psychodramas?

The want to dismantle our nukes and our commitments to work with other European countries to protect each other.
If they withdrew their signatures so easily it makes you wonder about their true conviction on the matter. If it was so important to them surely they would have accepted the withdrawal of the whip and resigned their membership?

I am sure all kind of apologists will come out of the woodwork in this very thread. I know they’re mostly just being disingenuous, but for anyone genuinely wondering about this let me lay out the facts
1. Stop the War have been an organisation that’s always been in the news for all the wrong reasons, with a history of making statements supportive of every anti-West group, dictator, regime etc. for over 10 years, from Putin’s Russia to fucking ISIS. All on record on their own website.
2. Throughout the last one month they’ve been consistently blaming NATO ‘warmongering’, the USA, the UK government and even Starmer’s Labour party for their support of NATO ‘warmongering’ when in fact all their efforts and words have been to prevent Russia from actually making war on Ukraine.
3. Even after the full-scale Russian invasion started Stop the War [put out](http://stopthewar.co.uk/) this statement yesterday that had one paragraph about Russian ‘movement’ into Ukraine and then several paragraphs blaming 30 years of Western policies, ‘US and NATO hegemony’ and the UK’s ‘provocative role’.
The fact that Corbyn and his supposedly leftist followers have been so reluctant to blame an openly imperialist and fascist Russian dictator for an 8-year long war that is going to have implications for all of Eastern Europe for the last 8 years is bad in itself.
The fact that they are STILL taking this stance even now, after it’s quite clear to all and sundry who the invader is and who the victims are, is a disgrace and has permanently damaged what’s left of the reputations of Corbyn, the Socialist Campaign Group and perhaps the entire British Left.
Starmer has been too kind of them. These people are the modern-day successors of those ‘socialists’ and ‘pacifists’ who didn’t want Britain to fight Hitler in World War 2, who George Orwell wrote about.
The most infuriating thing about Stop the War’s 1984esque interpretation of Ukraine is they are damaging anti-war sentiment. By dying on this really stupid hill the next stupid war from the US will be impossible to protest because every politician will remind us of the time Stop the War decided to back naked Russian imperialism.
The chance for peace has passed and was Available since November now that Russia is in Ukraine Putin isn’t going to pull out now through diplomatic efforts that ain giving him massive concessions
Unfortunately this is a different situation with Putin.
An attack on any NATO country needs an equal military response. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. Because it will inevitably lead to a nuclear exchange when Putin is loosing and gets desperate.
The other option is to surrender have no war. Europe gets carved up between Russia and China.
So you can get to chose a Gulag/detention centre or become an informant and when freedom eventually arrives get shot by the resistance as a collaborator.
Only way out of this shit is for the Russians to get rid of Putin.

we don’t need to protect it. like ya it sucks that russia invaded it but its no different than any other country gettin invaded. i feel like people are giving this so much more energy than when russia invaded georgia.
Criticism of NATO does not equal praise for Putin.
