  1. By Jordan King – US News Reporter:

Russians in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast receive one million rubles (about $10,000) for the birth of each child they have, starting from next year, amid the country’s sinking birth rate.

Governor Gleb Nikitin’s announcement was reported in the Institute for the Study of War (ISW)’s Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment on Tuesday.

Russia’s current birth rate is 1.5 children per woman, and a birth rate of 2.1 children per woman is needed to sustain a population.

  2. It makes little sense to pay people to have kids.

On an unrelated note: I’m sorry to say, but Russia has no hope or future left. It’s completely done for. A true tragedy for a country that could have been a multi-trillion dollar economy. Then again, Russia has been the way it has been for 300+ years.

  3. With their current inflation rates 1m rubles soon won’t be enough for a month.

  4. Now they take the word trollfarms literally. Even if this would be enough to raise a kid halfways through childhood in russia, how big is the chance they pay out this money to everyone?

  5. One million roubles!?! That’s worth about €9500…

    €9400…

    €9300…

    €9200…

  6. 10% bonus if they are born without fetal alcohol syndrome.

  7. Well it would take that amount of money to travel to France or something to be treated for infertility so it makes sense

  8. Your firstborn son, growing sunflowers in the fields of Ukraina? De nada!

For your second son: One million roubles, Moscow Gold, gone the way of the new Lada.

  9. Let’s be real here, they are far from the only country on the world with this problem.

  10. Europe should step in and offer Russian families 1.5 million rubles to **not** have children.

We can solve the Russian problem in a generation or so.

  11. Here’s five bucks, make me some cannon fodder.

    Post-USSR propaganda lacks panache.

  12. 10k not enough for all the fuss of having a kid in that country, or honestly anywhere in the world nowadays.

  13. > [November, 2023] In a speech via video link at the World Russian People’s Council in Moscow on Tuesday, Mr Putin said boosting the Russian population will be “our goal for the coming decades”.

I assume Russia is going to start doing this once Putin stops focusing on decreasing Russian population.

  14. Well they need to restock the front line, and a million rubles in a few years will be enough to buy chewing gum

  15. Just ditch the sinking ship and immigrate, that way you get freedom for your whole family.

  16. Russia has a lot of LGBT apparently? /s

They have to be bribed to breed.

  17. First things first: F*CK Russia, I hope they die out. The world would be better off without this murderous pit.

Apart from that I have some thoughts on this matter that apply to all countries with this problem.

I think purely monetary solution attempts will fail across the board. People have to want children, and if this is the case, they will try to make the ends meet somehow.

From my personal experience I can tell that one of the biggest hurdles and stressors is isolation. Of course it goes without saying that socially isolated singles will never have children.

Next, too many people (I was one of them) do not have much personal experience with children. I just didn’t realize what I was missing out on.

But even couples who are open to having children must not be isolated. There is the saying that it takes a village to raise a child, and this is so very damn true. Many couples rely on a combination of support by grand parents, day care, and other means.

In our case there were no grand parents available (2/4 dead, the others too far away for any support in our daily lives), and day care was somewhat limited and not very reliable. Of course the pandemic made it even worse, but even without it it was exhausting to an extent that’s not even funny. This is the main reason why we “only” have one child, and a second one is no longer in the cards.

So, you need a combination of factors:

    * In a very general way, people should be able to feel optimistic, or at least not pessimistic, about the future. This is especially relevant for a dystopian hellhole like Russia, but also in decent countries young people often times and increasingly so have doubts, for example with regards to climate change.
    * People should somehow be able to experience the joy of children.
    * People have to be able to socialize and find partners. That means no 60 weekly hours jobs, but rather 40-42 max or so.
    * There have to be public spaces for social life in order to meet people.
    * There have to be social structures that actually facilitate people meeting other people.
    * There has to be top tier daycare, and very affordable as well, ideally it costs nothing, just like grand parents helping out.
    * Both parents of a baby should be able to work part-time if they choose so, at least for a year or two.
    * And last but not least people should be able to financially make ends meet.

I doubt that politicians and countries really are grasping the complexity of the problem, and if they do, are willing to dedicate all the effort and money into solving it. It‘s much easier to blame people, or threaten to roll back women‘s rights.

  18. This money is payable after the child has reached maturity and fought for mother Russia

  19. They offered a Lada for soldiers killed on the special suicide mission. Soon, it went down to a bag of potatoes.

  20. The worrying thing is Russian TFR is not that low by European standards. They have a much better rate then Italy and a slightly better rate then Germany for example. we will all need to adopt much more pro family measures in the coming years.

  21. One million rubles will soon be around $1 when the ruble collapses.

  22. Pathetic to see how Russians are allowing it happening, just let china conquer you already!!!
