The Economic Times has declared Bangladesh as the “Country of the Year,” but the ground reality tells a different story. The country is grappling with political instability, as there is no proper elected government in place. The Bangladeshi currency is steadily depreciating. Even Donald Trump has commented that minorities, particularly Hindus, are not safe in Bangladesh, with attacks on them increasing day by day. Furthermore, their relations with India are deteriorating.
Reports suggest that the Arakan Army has seized several posts on the Myanmar side of the border, posing a significant security threat. Bangladesh is struggling to pay its electricity bills, and the country has had to import rice from India to ensure food security.
Given such conditions, it is baffling how a major media outlet like The Economist can label Bangladesh as the “Country of the Year.” This is shameful and raises serious questions about the motives behind such decisions. It appears that such narratives aim to create tensions, even to the extent of exacerbating India-Bangladesh relations, potentially leading to a war-like situation.
I only read the first few lines but one of the countries they considered was NOT Argentina. Bad or Good I don’t know but in terms of making economic history, I think it’d clearly go to them.
