  1. Taking a page out of Russia’s book? Jailing journalists to use them as leverage to free criminals that are jailed in Europe.

  2. Nothing else can be expected from the charter member of the Axis of Shit. Beardos arresting female journalists and throwing them in a dungeon renowned for rapes and torture.

  3. Why do people still go to fucked-up places, given all what happened there with previous adventurers is beyond me …

  4. I don’t understand why do they visit shit, dictatorship countries like rusia and iran?

  5. Cecilia Sala, an Italian journalist for the newspaper Il Foglio, was arrested in Iran earlier in the month, Italy’s foreign ministry [announced](https://www.esteri.it/it/sala_stampa/archivionotizie/comunicati/2024/12/nota-farnesina-cecilia-sala/) on Friday.

The arrest took place on Dec. 19 but was only made public by authorities today. The ministry said that the Italian ambassador to Iran Paola Amadei visited the journalist in detention to verify the conditions in which she was being held.

Sala, 29, has covered Iran extensively in the past and recently released an episode of her podcast “Stories,” in which she interviewed Zeinab Musavi, an Iranian standup comic who has spoken against the compulsory wearing of the hijab in her videos. Musavi was imprisoned earlier this year but has since been released.

Il Foglio [wrote](https://www.ilfoglio.it/esteri/2024/12/27/news/il-giornalismo-non-e-un-crimine-riportiamo-a-casa-cecilia-sala-7277959/) that Sala is being held in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.

“Journalism isn’t a crime, not even in countries that repress every kind of freedom, including that of the press. Let’s bring her home,” the Italian daily wrote.

Sala’s detention follows the arrest in Italy of an Iranian national accused of supplying drone components to Iran, according to Iran’s foreign ministry, which has [criticized](https://en.mfa.gov.ir/portal/newsview/758515) the arrest.

Tehran has [a long record of hostage diplomacy](https://www.politico.eu/article/we-just-want-johan-back-an-eu-diplomat-has-spent-2-years-in-irans-most-notorious-prison/), in which it arrests Westerners to exchange them for officials held in Europe for spying, terrorism, or human rights violations.

  6. At least they “only” arrested her. Some others would have straight killed her and said she was a terrorist.

  7. Seriously after us.. Sweden gave up a mass murdering cunt to get another one of theese idiots out from a death conviction in Iran.

    She is a double agent!

  8. Why even go there in the first place? With all the respect for her work and bravery at the end she’s just given them another card to negotiate with.

  9. We have to respond fucking furiously at behaviour like this, we can’t accept that Iran kidnaps our EU citizens.

  10. Journalist and their families also getting killed and kidnapped in gaza.

Edit : the fact that people are downvoting me just for highlighting a much severe crisis for journalism and freedom of speech . 🤔

Oh and it’s war crime to kill journalist as per most countries .

Edit 2 : 😂😂😂 I am anti Iranian but then again. Humaaaaaan riaaaaghts CHAMBIONS at work😂😂

Edit 3: 😂😂 I got -17 that tell something about how much care of journalism and right to freedom of speech

  11. this is like stepping into an active volcano and expecting there not to be lava

  12. What about journalist-hunter Israel? They don’t arrest them they straight up shoot them.

  13. If they don’t respect the rules. Neither should we.

I bet there are a ton of regime family members living the good life in europe.

    Let’s just start arresting them.

Notice how they don’t pull this shit with us or israel.

  14. I get they are journalists and it’s their job to be in these places but it really fucking sucks they can just arrest a westerner in their country to bail out whatever criminal or terrorist they want back. Seems impossible to deal with

  15. Sala is one of the most prominent rising journalists in Italy, especially among younger people, who listen to her podcasts to find out what’s new.

I don’t know if Iran knew this, but they just messed up big time. This is not a small fry journalist you use to trade prisoners with.
