Too late, Bob! LOL
Well, one of his marketable celebrities is going towards a litigation, curious how this is going to turn out for Disney (Ryan Reynolds)
What a spineless pussy
So is sinking all your previous valuable IPs to zero. Only Disney could make people miss George Lucas
He’s right, it’s bad for business. Not as bad as producing lackluster live action remakes, or squeezing the soul out of a beloved franchise, or making your parks incredibly expensive while also skimping to the point it’s noticeable by the general public….. but politics is also bad business. I’m not a big fan of trying to make private companies our saviors though, their one mission is to make money, they will swing with whichever way the wind is blowing. Can’t really fault them, they’re scorpions and it’s in their nature to sting. Sometimes they sting your adversary, sometimes they sting you. Never lay your hopes on them, just use them as the tool they are when able and be prepared for them to be used against you.
Sold your soul to a bunch of bullies that any one of your heroes would have fought against.
“Politics is bad for business” sounds straightforward and fine until you realize that for a not small segment of the population, everything they don’t like is “political”. And they’re going to bitch and moan every time they see anything they don’t like anyway and say it’s “political”.
Fuck you bob. Having lgbtq characters isn’t political. Having POC and female stories isn’t political. It’s literally reflecting the world around us. It only becomes political when you let right wing assholes bully you into canceling stuff because of their backwards hateful views.
He is so late to this conundrum.
Correct. The goal is to make money.
If you read the piece, you know Iger didn’t actually say this. But this is sadly the policy of Disney we would see for years.
No… Politics is GREAT for business. Ask the news corporations.
It’s just that when you’re in the entertainment business, producing actual entertaining content should be the primary objective.
Disney dropped the ball on the thing that matters most. Had the quality not been allowed to slip, nobody would have batted an eyelid to more diverse casts and characters and stories. They would have celebrated them because the stories were actually good.
I guess “ put a chick it and make her gay” didn’t pan out like they thought it would.
Sadly the unintelligent and uneducated among us don’t know the difference between political issues and social issues. That’s why they’re always mad when someone who’s not exactly like them gets some of the spotlight.
Human rights issues are not inherently political.
It’s cowardly to not seek inclusion.
Hot button issues like people’s rights
Meanwhile over at Amazon Studios…
can’t disagree with this man
Gotta hand it to Trump. Woke had a good run, but looks like it’s over for the foreseeable future
“Politics is bad for business ” states man who has given $100 million+ to politics.
I saw A New Hope back when it was just called Star Wars. 7 times in the theater. A kid I was. I’ve seen all of Star Wars apart from the clone wars tv shows. Rogue One is the best movie in the series. Andor comes in a close second.
Avoiding issues people use politics to oppress is being political
Disney literally got his start bc of politics making propaganda cartoons. What the fuck is Iger thinking?
After engaging in union busting practices, paying stock holders and ceos an exorbitant salary and stock buybacks, not paying a fair wage to cgi people, Disney is still accused by the conservatives as being woke.
How can a mega corporation still be woke while it doesn’t have a 4 day work week?
