    I’m not sure where the tech is at right now, but chaff? Flare launchers? Electronic something or other?

  17. Have to say when I went to India last year via Dubai from California, I was not thrilled at the route I was on to get there. It flew over all sorts of lovely places that seem to lob missiles indiscriminately. Have to go back in a couple of months but don’t see much in the way of alternatives to get there.

  22. Is there evidence that Russia shot down the plane? This headline assumes it was Russia using a missile and the very first sentence is a link saying:

    But if you click the link there are ZERO mentions of missiles or anything intentional. So the OP article claims the plane was shot down and cites as evidence an article that does not make that claim at all. It says the plane was 100s of miles off course when it crashed.

    I might accept that new evidence was found but given that the citation for the evidence is a story saying it may have been a bird strike, this story seems more like some kind of propaganda trying to whip up xenophobia.

    Edit: after looking up more reputable sources, the evidence appears to include Russia as one of the possible sources of fault but not by a missile. The video shows the plane attempting to crash land in a desert. Other video show possible bullet holes which could have been antiaircraft fire. The plane was on route to a Russian airport had apparently been diverted away from the original airport by Russia due to fog and what they said were Ukranian drones in the area. Surviving passengers say they heard 3 bangs come from the outside of the aircraft & then the oxygen masks came down. One passenger reported he saw blood after the bangs but did not know how he was injured. The pilots were diverting to an alternate airport but for some reason did not make it & both pilots were killed in the crash landing. The black box was recovered. (in the video it looked like the plane was gliding rather than flying under its own power so just speculation it seemed like the plane was out of fuel)
