I really love everything about Poland and I’m happy to pay taxes here, just curious maybe you have a discussion in your community to make it illegal to burn trash and other stuff for heating?

  1. We burn trash for energy and heat in Sweden and it’s fine. Maybe the coal power plants, maybe coal power plants without filters that clean the air.

  2. I think it’s already illegal, but you can’t check every house what are they burning

  3. Burning trash is illegal in Poland. If you are sure that it is a case, there’s many ways to report it – contacting Straż Miejska is the most common one.

Most people (especially those who don’t have much experience) can’t tell the difference between a coal furmance being started/badly fired and trash burning. There are areas in Poland where the worst air comes down almost exclusively to burning coal.

It’s a big topic in Polish public dispute, and cities (like Kraków) are making strides with fixing the situation.

I don’t believe you are unaware of the fact that burning literal trash is illegal.

Edit – after watching your profile it’s obvious that you’re baiting.

  4. It is illegal to burn trash.

Technically even wet wood is illegal, but nobody bothers to check that.

Also: it is definitely coal. I thought it cannot be that bad if you use good quality coal, but it definitely can be that bad.

I can heat my house both with coal and with gas, but even though it’s twice as expensive, I take gas over coal any day. Every bloody time I tried to use the coal option I was horrified at how awful the starting point of this was. It just stinks. Wood does not stink, even though it also is burning… I now only keep the coal furnace in case there’s a longer power shortage, cause the gas one does need electricity to pump the water around. Otherwise it’s gas all season. I cannot believe how many people in 2024 still deal with coal heating daily, it’s such a pain in the ass, the savings are not even worth it, our health is suffering, you can’t even enjoy going out.

Believe me, we are mad. On the other hand lots of people live on so little they feel like they have no choice, but to keep poisoning themselves and their neighbours. They do have a choice though, it’s just a bit tougher than just keeping on doing what they’ve always done… I think people are a bit too accommodating towards the coal burning households.
