I don’t really understand, how can Bergen have less sun than Tromso? Is that because of the long hours of sun in the summer? Generally the trend seems to be more sun the closer you get to the equator, so why the trend change? On a similar note, how Amsterdam have so much less sun than Scandinavia? Also quite a sudden decrease in the UK, even if you account for latitude.
And what than explains the radical difference between Bergen and Oslo? That surely can’t be right?
The data is beautifully presented, but the underlying data itself seems all over the place.
This is as opposed to night, not rain, right? Because London doesn’t get a lot of sunny days…
So ‘daylight’ hours might be a better way of putting it.
I was in Oulu, Finland recently and, as a night owl, I didn’t think the lack of sunlight would be a big deal to me, but damn. There was only like 4 hrs of sunlight each day. I was genuinely relieved to have the Sun back again for several more hours when I got back to the US. Even with taking vitamin D supplements each day, it wasn’t necessarily depressing, but it is just nice to have the big fire ball.
This just says that the closer to the equator the more sun a place gets. Which is, I mean, duh.
