From Canada to Europe: Why Indian students are shifting their study abroad dreams

8. There are a lot in Bulgaria. None stay here though thankfully and they don’t pull the same shenanigans like overstaying their visas like they do in Canada. The problem is all these schools see is dollar signs and it only gets worse from there.

    I have an Indian colleague who openly says he came here for the citizenship.

19. We have a lot of Indians at my work in Germany. Literally every single one gave the same two reasons for coming to study in Germany: 1) basically free 2) in English. (the implied 3 is usually that they were not competitive enough for the UK or US). Despite wanting free school, most are from relatively wealthy families.

    My personal opinion is that foreign students in DE should pay 80-100% the real costs of the education or perhaps even more for competitive programs to subsidize the cost for poor locals.

22. Because Canadian immigration quotas radically shrank ?!?

23. Importing milions of third worlders does nothing but drive our wages lower and increase the housing market crysis. We don’t want them here in Europe. They should stay in their home country and improve it.

24. If your universities are private and these are not in the first 100 much, your universities are based on the business aka ripping off the people.

    Then AirCanada or Lufthansa, or whatever take Indian students to Europe.

27. Quick story: I am doing my master‘s degree in information systems at an Australian public university. In the first semester, we had 60 students from Pakistan enrolled. The university got suspicious about why so many people from Pakistan suddenly wanted to study there. Turns out, 58 of those 60 people faked their bachelor‘s diplomas. My university reached out to the university they apparently obtained their diplomas from and then found out that they were fake.
    Also, I spoke to a girl from Nepal/Pakistan/Bangladesh (I cannot remember where she was from. I met so many people on the first day; it was honestly exhausting). She told me she was scared about the first exam we had to take because she didn‘t have math in her bachelor’s degree, which was a computer science degree. How is that possible????
    I‘d say that about 95% of people from outside of Europe failed the entrance exam because they simply did not have the necessary skills. They had no math skills, extreme difficulty understanding simple texts, and absolutely no idea how to study independently.

28. Because the majority are just a bunch of scammers looking for an easy meal ticket. Now that Canada is cracking down on the blatant abuse from both Indians, post secondary education, and corporations; they need to find somewhere else to scam.

    And Europe is an easy target.

29. Indian leaders fail to sufficiently reform the country so hundreds of millions of people are desperate to go elsewhere

    Now its very very very very difficult for leaders to reform the country (if they have the right plan), thats the problem with issues building up and rentseekers becoming entrenched over several decades, its next to impossible so you just trundle on for a bit with small positive steps and hope the rest of the world absorbs your excess of people.

    Much easier for another populous country like China to make some smart reforms (After the very difficult task of cementing a dictatorship over a billion people…..and there was the 10s of millions of needles deaths…apples and orange i suppose)

30. These guys will sign up, pay a few grand, work as delivery drivers and never attend a single class. It’s a scam
