We dont pay for water here, our water is not privatised.
Beggars belief that a Government body ( OFWAT) were happy ( for years) to sit on the sidelines and watch the water companies play a merry tune every time the winter rains arrive.
The privatised companies paid out millions to their shareholders and consumer had to watch yearly their bills increase , while seeing unprocessed sewage pumped into to our seas , rivers and waterways with little repercussion.( A few Million Pounds fines issued here and there) To these huge companies tiny million £ fines were inconsequential to these companies as deterrent.
In the Uk oil and Gas industry Company Directors can be liable to significant consequence , where Environmental and Safety regulations are not adhered to in day to day operations. Why not applicable legislation in the Water industry.
Why given the years of flaunting of discharge allowances have Senior Management in these companies not been held to account. A total disgrace , at so many levels ..and to rub salt in the wound the UK consumer has to pick up the tab every time ..
Where was our Government focus these last ten years ?
1) Creating a Brexit shambles.?
2) Oh we also had a Pandemic to deal with). Fine excuses.
These last ten years , out there on the sidelines.Where was OFWAT!!
I’m laughing now, back in Scotland.
But I remember moving to London and getting a fat bill from Thames Water and thinking *what the fuck is this* whilst simultaneously wondering what was inside my kettle.
