Yay, we will move much closer to meeting our carbon goals.
Boo, thousands if not millions will suffer and many will die.
If only we could have forseen ever escalating carbon fuel prices rising.
The article posted 2 above this in my feed said £2600.
I thought from April the cap was £2000?
People are going to literally need to get a second job for just this one bill at this rate.
Obviously there won’t be any help as this is but a minor inconvenience for the Tory voter base.
Got to keep up the illusion that the holy precious *Market* is the best method for delivering energy and not the reality that we’re all far better off when its state delivered as a utility and prices to the consumer heavily regulated or simply incoporated into taxes.
Economic shocks such as what we’re facing absorbed by the state rather than placing all of the burden on individuals in abject poverty.

But just think of all the record profits the energy companies will enjoy.
Time to renationalise them.
But remember – the Tories are good with the economy, the market always knows best, and anyone that says otherwise is a DIRTY FUCKIN COMMIE.
In the article he talks about making sure help is available to those who need it. Which is great, but with average bills that high I’m wondering who WOULDN’T need help to pay them??
My solar panels are going to pay themselves off in half the time if this keeps up.
Got the email today.
> Your electricity rates will change from 20.076p to 27.358p per kWh and your standing charge per day will change from 26.82p to 48.52p.
Your gas rates will change from 3.983p to 7.280p per kWh and your standing charge per day will change from 26.11p to 27.22p.
It amounts to about a 50 percent rise in total.
Well, gas just went up 40% today. Without these price caps (which we will all be slowly paying for in the next 10 years after everything settles down) average bills would probably hit £6,000-£7,000 if you look at the actual market prices and not final consumer prices.
Got an email that my estimated annual bill will be £3,086. Up over £900. Thanks Mr Johnson.
I can barely afford my bills atm… I guess it’s time I started learning the way of the candle and the way of wearing all my clothes in winter so I don’t freeze to death. Good luck to me and to anyone else struggling. 🙏
Some of us are already struggling, so.. What now?
Will the minimum wage be increased to match the increased cost of living?
Will the government pay the disparity in price for people in need until the price returns to normal?
Or are we supposed to use candles for light and wear our coats indoors?
If you don’t pay the bill, do they send someone to switch off the energy or disconnect it, and does the amount outstanding get wrote off once the debt collectors realise I don’t own anything to take
Fix rate prices are absolutley batshit, the cheapest price I could find is £1300 more than I pay now annually…
This is the first time I’m staying on variable rate tarrif.
Annual loft insulation upgrades were running at 1.6million/year under Labour. Tories ended the incentive scheme. The annual upgrades is now only about 50,000! That’s a catastrophic collapse and explains the closure of companies like Mark Group who used to do home cavity and loft insulations!
Loft insulation pays for itself in a year!!! Buy it, do it, don’t expect the conservative government to provide for you!
Because prices went up, or because the pound just sunk more? Oh both eh?

Figure 4 on this government graph makes for some explanation as to why British houses are so poorly insulated – and why Tories are totally shit
